Sure they'll take the car back after 60 days, but you'll be out a shitload of money on those items

It was previously mentioned in this thread that sales tax will be refunded.

* The Satisfaction Guarantee covers the vehicle purchase price and sales tax, but not other add-ons like accessories, negative equity on a trade-in or other fees; other restrictions apply

the dealers that were on the radio this morning sounded pretty enthusiastic about this.

Not many will be returned. Mostly a marketing soundbite that may or may not Sell Cars. It'll probably boost Consumers Confidence in buying a GM Product and will likely lead to some Sales because of it.

A new twist on the 100k warranty thing. It's a gimmick to sell more vehicles...dur.

I'd be willing to bet that there are vehicles, mainly the vehicles that people actually might want to buy, that are exempt from this.

You have to pay insurance anyway..you won't end up 'losing' any money there.

nice policy, this can only help us end consumers. (unless theres some sort of marketting gimmick of course and we're screwed via technicality.)

it'd be good if all car companies adopt a return policy afer 60/90 days, like when i buy a flashlight from radioshack. then they seal up the box and re-sell it as new =)

Except flashlights don't have odometers. 😛

It doesn't appear to exclude any cars or light trucks from the 4 brands GM is keeping.

Here's a bit of information from GM's website about it.
GM Guarantee
Eligible Vehicle means a new 2009 or 2010 model year Chevrolet, Buick, GMC or Cadillac motor vehicle (excluding medium duty vehicles) that is purchased from a Participating Dealership located in the United States. Saab, Saturn, Hummer and Pontiac motor vehicles are not eligible and thus, are not Eligible Vehicles.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet the returned cars will end up in GM's PEP program. I think that is the only way they'd be able to sell them w/o losing their asses.

alot of things have a money back guarantee , just about nobody takes advantage of it because it is a pain in the ass

Apparently this isn't uncharted waters for GM.

GM's Vauxhall brand used a money-back guarantee in the U.K. some years ago, GM marketing chief Bob Lutz says, and only 2% to 3% of buyers brought vehicles back for refunds ? about what he expects for the U.S. program.

USA Today article

I don't give a fvck what happens in 60s days.

I just want to know what happens at 7-10 years/200,000+ miles on the ODO when most well-maintained Hondas and Toyotas are still on the road.

Still worth it to own a fully loaded Corvette for two months with no long-term commitment or maintenance needs.

Free $500.00?

According to the fine print, the dealer must offer $500 to anyone who wants to return a vehicle in lieu of returning it. This is great, and correct me if I'm wrong: Doesn't it mean that even if you DON'T want to return the vehicle, you can pretend to want to return it, and then get $500 to not return it?

LOL!

So it's really a scam, then?

Yep, it's a scam. People are going to take the $500 and not bother with the guarantee.

Is there an alternative offer if the customer is not interested in the Satisfaction Guarantee program?

Yes. In lieu of the 60 day Satisfaction Guarantee, the customer can elect a $500 cash incentive at the time of vehicle purchase.

That probably means that taking the 60-day guarantee will be $500 more than if they didn't have this promotion in the first place.

Ah I see! The $500 must be taken at the time of purchase, not at the time of return. So my attempt to scam GM is foiled!

Yep. Kia or somebody ran a offer where you could return your vehicle if you lost your job within a year of buying it. Only 50 or so buyers benefited from the offer.

Hyundai did. I think it helped in sales, because it gave the consumer confidence.
