Satellite based internet access for a laptop?

Typically, I'd like to be able to take my laptop anywhere in the world, turn it on and have a highspeed connection available. The only possible way I though of doing this is to have some type of satellite based service, and then I suppose I'd need some type of card for the laptop.

Anyone seen or heard of this? Or is there a better way? I've seen people who have a connection using their cell phone but that's not what I'm looking for...

What is wrong with plugging a PCMCIA card from your cellular provider? I believe the upload for satellite still needs a regular phone line.

So far as I know, there is no way to have a high speed connection anywhere in the world. A satellite phone connected to your laptop will give you low dialup speeds more or less anywhere; but you'll need to work things out by region to get anything faster than that.
