What are these SATA harddrives I keep reading about? How do they compare to normal ATA100/133 HDD's?

The new 10k rpm expensive one is faster - the older ones are slower. There isn't much benefit over the standard ATA drives except for the smaller cables.
. Just use round cables if you've got an airflow problem.
