I've got Serial ATA II (300MB) ports on my MB and was thinking of getting a drive for it. I've seen some sata II drives out there, but not too many benchmarks. Do you know if the sata II drives are that much faster?

Or if I'm looking for performance should I just get a raptor?

Thanks,

Sata II drives are usually faster, but not because of the Sata II speed increase, since hard drives can't reach those speeds anyway. Like any hardware, Sata II improves and optimizes the technology, and has also included new technologies such as Native Command Queuing which can speed up data transfers. The Sata II speed increase is more useful for connections with multiple drives, as this is now possible with Sata II.

The Raptor74 is still the fastest SATA HD bar none, so if you don't mind its price premium, by all means use it as your boot drive -- you'll notice the difference.
