I'm trying to decide on which hard drive to buy. Can anyone tell me how much faster an sata drive would be than an ata??

Unless the SATA drive is a Western Digital 10,000 RPM Raptor, SATA and PATA drives perform the same. SATA drives currently are just the PATA versions with the SATA interface slapped on.

What Wobble said.

Having the small SATA cable is also another reason for itself. Especially in a Small Form Factor machine a SATA drive with corresponding cable helps decrease the clutter somewhat.

If you're talking about the Raptors, then that's an acceptible argument. If you're talking about the 7200RPM drives, you need to find a better store to buy from. They're only a few bucks more and I am willing to pay that price just for the thinner cabling alone.
