Sata Upgrade Question

I've been looking into upgrading recently to an A64 system, but when looking for motherboards I have noticed that they all have sata. Now if I did upgrade I would want to keep my regular IDE hard drive, so my question is would there be any compatibility problems and could I even use a regular IDE hard drive on a sata motherboard? Thanks.

Hello,

Every board I have seen has both SATA and IDE. No motherboard, that I know of, has gotten rid of IDE (DVD / CD still run on IDE). I'm not sure about compatiability problems with running both types, I am trying to find that out myself?

I've not heard of any compatibility problems, and you can use IDE hard drives on a motherboard with SATA. The main issue is usually the boot priority of the drives, which is set somewhere in your BIOS. But it will work.

I am using both an IDE and SATA drives. No problems whatsoever. But like what Bunter said, the only problem you might come across is the boot priority and installing windows.
