SATA problems

I have to keep asking this because these forums update so quickly. I just build a new system and I can't get my SATA drive to recognize. It showed up during installation of Windows, but its nowhere to be found now that windows is installed. Heres me system:

AMD Athlong 64 3200+ Venice
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 (is this board any good?)
ATI x800XL 256MB
Seagate 160GB SATA
WD 200GB IDE

well, aparently he installed windows on it, so it must be there. umm, try and see if its in disk management. then, if its not there, go to device manager and see if there are any question marks, especially by your sata controller. try installing your sata controller again inside windows.

Oh, I thought he installed it on the PATA drive but the SATA showed up as an option for installing.

it did show up, and I installed windows on my IDE drive, NOT the SATA. I just cant find the SATA in My Computer anywhere even though its hooked up. Where's disk manager at? Newb question I know but I've never had to do it. I went into device manager and there was no SATA anything to be found.

Also one more thing I noticed...am I supposed to have a secondary display thing. In the display properties/settings, theres listed:

1. Plug and play monitor on Radeon x800 series
2. (defaukt monitor) on x800 series - Secondary

I have the 1st on highlighted.

okay I found disk manager and the drive is nowhere to be found. But like I said, it shows up in that raid controller thing. Also, in device manager there is no SATA anything at all.

Just realized you have a Gigabyte mobo. Just install a CD driver for motherboad, it comes with SATA drivers.

I have a Gigabyte mobo and I installed SATA drivers from cd for a SATA hard drive.

right click on my computer and go to properties. select hardware and go to device manager. find your sata controller there. if it has a question mark next to it, that means the driver isnt installed. right click on it and go to properties. go to driver and see what it says.

Yes I have it hooked up, because it is recognized in the nvraid thing in my start menu. And no, there are no question marks in device manager at all.

Its recognized in the Raid Manager. Its listed by itself as healthy and master. Theres 2 options on the side that are "hot plug array" and create array". This is the only place the drive is recognized.

I noticed something else wierd also, I don't know if it has anythign to do with my drive or not. Everytime my computer boots up it asks me to select which OS to boot. The only two choices are Windows XP Professional. Its just listed twice. Is there a way to make that stop or did I install windows wrong?

Try using the disk utility software from the your SATA HD's manufacturer. Once you install it, their software should be able to locate, format, and configure your new HD.

Your nVidia SATA controller appears to be in RAID mode. Switch it to non-RAID mode. SATA info for newbies
