SATA problem

im sure this has been posted before but im not quite clear on how to install it. when i try to install windows it says there is either a damaged HD or no HD. i think i have to press f6 when windows first boots up to set up raid, but when i press f6 nothing happens, i even switched keyboards. Also i went into bios and enabled SATA-IDE controller. i have a msi k8t-neo. Is there anything else i have to do? does anyone know why it wont let me press f6. im new at this stuff and could use some help.

Are you using a wired keyboard instead of a USB? Since that board I believe doesn't have Native SATA support you will need to load the drivers on a floppy so that windows can recognize the drive.

Are you pressing F6 at the correct time? When you boot to the Windows CD to begin your install very aearly on you get a blue screen with a slime white bar on the bottom. Watch the white bar for the message that tells you to press F6 if you need to install SCSI/other controllers. I forget the exact wording, but you'll see it if you look and pay attention. It's only up about 30 seconds. Pressing F6 at any other time won't help. If you already knew this, I don't mean to be insulting. If that was the problem, hope this helped. If not, let us know and someone else will have to help, cuz I have no other idea.

yeah ive noticed it and have tried holding F6 down and pressing it really fast and all that stuff, nothing seems to have any effect. when it switches at the bottom to press F2 for safe recover or something pressing F2 works. Ive tried using ps/2 and usb keyboards and they dont work. thanks for the help guys.

After you press F6 the Windows install will continue to run through pre install procedures and eventually give you the option to install other drivers from a floppy..about 3 minutes or so depending.

This delay can give the impression that the F6 keypress did not work.

homebrew, thank you. i tried what you said and it worked and loaded the drivers from the floppy, but then when it says press enter to install windows it still doesnt read the HD... should i download all the drivers or just the ones for xp? thanks for the help guys.
