sata problem

Just installed a new motherboard, and while i was plugging in the power switch and such, i must have leaned on the stata cable for my wd200jd, and the black plastic on the pins came out (of the connector on the drive not the cable), i have been able to reconnect it and boot, but not sure how long it will last, going to backup and probably order another drive, unless anyone has a suggestion for fixing it.

it appears to be working, currently installing windows (prior installation cant boot because of new mobo/proc) will then back up important files (most important things are allready backed up), it will probably work fine unless the case is moved when running, as the cable is in, just not as snug as before.

I may be missing the severity of the problem, but I have seen chunks of plastic connectors come off of drives before. It is a little unnerving, but generally not fatal.

Western Digital makes a SATA cable attached to a bracket that physically connects to the back of the hard drive. It is called the secure connect system, and is allegedly designed to prevent cable stress. Check it out here.

If the damage is limited to the housing and not the pins, that might give you some peace of mind and strengthen the whole thing. I have used them in my SATA installations just as sort of a preventative measure. I know Provantage for under $12, and I'm sure others do, too.

the pins are a little bent but i cant still plug it in, i will probably order the wd secure connect cable for the other drive, but not sure that i could even plug it into this drive at the moment. Bassicaly i can now see the pins as the plastic l bracket on them snaped off.
