SATA POWER?

HOW DO I POWER MY SATA?... I orderd a SATA hard drive from new egg and it doesnt use the regular 4 pin power cable. It looks like this [======] wtf is that and how do i power it, do i need an adapter b/c i orderd it OEM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
Hi beefy and Welcome to the Forums!

Many PSU's have a SATA power connector. Check the specs of your PSU to confirm whether or not it has one, or look in the case 😉

The reason it uses a different power cable is because of new features like hot-swap. You can't just plug in hard drives through 4 pin molex while the computer is on, that's potentially dangerous. The new 15 pin power connector is much better in this regard, but this might be negated with a simple converter.

Next time you buy a power supply, it should come with these specialized cables, but for now, just use an adapter.
 
I cna't help but laughing at how it seems like you are blaming the HDD because it uses some "[=======]' plug. You're all like WTF in the word is that there for?

thats the sata power connector. they made it different than the molex because SATA needs special power if you want to be able to hot swap it.

lol, Ok update... I just ran down to the local computer store 11.95 they charged me for that damn gender changer... BTW i had it all along ... DFI lanparty Came with it !!! DAMN THEM ALL!
