SATA or PATA optical drives

I?m going to be building a new computer, and was wondering whether or not I should get SATA optical drives for my DVD burners (2 total). Assuming that there will be enough room for all my drives in either case, and the prices are about the same, would there be any benefit in getting the SATA over the PATA?

Thanks,
Kevan

No "real" advantage, get either. SATA gets edge, due to smaller cables and no master/slave to deal with, as well as it new technology.

SATA is easier to use, and has smaller cables. The ICH8 and ICH9 don't support native IDE, as well.

the times are a changing, was not aware of that, but even more reason to consider SATA.

Yep, all boards using these chipsets have 3rd party one-channel PATA controller.

That would likely be the now-infamous JMicron controller, which most mobo manufacturers are using in order to provide PATA support. Some people/mobos have issues with this controller, so just another reason to go all SATA so that you can disable the JMicron controller in BIOS to avoid any problems.
