Just checking to make sure of this...If I buy a new SATA drive for my Thinkpad T61, I should be able to pop out the old SATA drive, toss it in my desktop SATA plug, clone to new hard drive, and go right?

As far as I know, yes. It's not like the old laptop drives where you need a special converter for desktops.

As long as your SATA power and data connectors don't have extra crap on the sides and fit right next to each other on the laptop drive then you're good to go.

I've seen some SATA cables with an abundance of molding around the connector, these are all older cables from 'the beginning'

Just tested it out. Works perfect. You don't even know how thankful I am for SATA and the fact that it's A. Plug and Play and B. Compatible backwards and forwards from laptops to desktops.

Lol, glad everything worked out for you. SATA is SATA, there is no difference.
