SATA installation

I just purchased 80Gb SATA WD try to fix in ASUSP4X8X.
On bios enabled SATA BIOS ROM, but when detecting the drive ,

got error msg: " Drive INITIATE failed, check DEVICE"

is it the HDD gone ?

well i try to install WinXP direct from CD if possible -Upgraded System

pls help
 
Check the cable is installed all the way or the power plug is properly attached....

Also try by unplugging any other DRives (HDD...Ide or SATA) currently connected...

Already reseated the SATA and power cable few many times...same thing !

tested only with one sata drive !!!

same thing.....

Well unable to detect the drive even in the bios....... when SATA bios scanned the drive..
it show that drive initiate failed.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Did you try all the ports available to you??? May have a bad one.....Also make sure all the SATA options were appropriately enabled??? Have you read if there are any bios updates that may have fixed any SATA issues???
 
yup....two ports tried both....
Updated bios already....

well in bios everything is set....i mean Enable Sata Bios Rom= which actually detects the drive.

Try harddriv eon another cpu to rule out your system..If it is dead rma it to the manufacturer....
 
Make sure your BIOS settings for SATA are not set for RAID. The fact that your system is saying its not initialized leads me to beleive you have it set for RAID.
