Okay i got a P5n 650i mobo and e6400 cpu + WD 2500kS HD, the problem is that i have tryed EVERYTHINg trying to install the drive in my computer but not working. I have tried settings in BIOS to auto detect not working, have tried to press f6 when installing windows not working trying install with floppy on a reboot DOS not working, Do i got a DEFECT HD or what. I think i ran out of options

Heard something that P5n is not supporting Sata II, but u can change the sata II to work wit the SATA with jumper settings

So anyone knows something like dat ?

Cheers !

Someone was telling you porkies, the 650i chipset is very recent and supports SATA II.

Is it plugged in (you'd be amazed just how often this is the problem)? Does the drive spin up? Have you got another drive to test it with?

It dosent SPIN but it gets HOT, yea i got my Seagate on 120 GB sata that works fine, but this is just bs with this on 250 GB WD... As i plugged the old one i did the same with the new one but it just wont reconize it :S

But all cables plugged in the small red cable + the SATA (bigger cable) w

Omg now this is rly bs

When i set the WD drive in it wont boot at all.. I mean i press the power but nothing happend.. But when i do it whit Seagate it boots :S

Try the 120GB on the same port you're having issues with. If that drive isn't recognized, it may be that port. Try the 250GB on the port that the 120GB is on, gotta narrow down the problem...

It's not spinning up? That's not normal (and the award for stating the obvious), as is the refusal to boot. You haven't done something silly like plug in two power cables? (Some drives have legacy power connections as well as the SATA standard).

Try booting with the seagate once that works connect just the power to the WD (no data cable), if it won't boot then you've got a defective drive alright. If it does boot then you might have a defective drive.

I tried that on 120 GB port, wokring fine wit the 120GB seagate, but when i turn everything off & put the WD in the same port it wont boot at all..

last night i tried it it was to hot, then it smelled like it got burned or something i tried to see what it was but couldnt see anything, maybe its burned something INSIDE the HD? (WD2500KS)

Yea cables were set right!

YEp everything was set up right

Tried putting it in slave then boot with my seagate drive, but it wouldnt.. I turned the power on but nothing happend
Yes i have tried their drivers but none are detecting my wd drive, i guess this is the end of my drive aye ? 🙁

i got the same problem with a maxtor drive put it in and nothing happens smells hot, so i take it out and all works again anyone have any idea what maybe causing this
