SATA, IDE, oh my!

bought a new machine with all SATA connections and drives

bought an IDE controller card to hook up my older HDD's in order to use as storage. only thing is i hadn't realized that SATA uses different power connections as well

how do i power my older drives? is there sata to ide power connection adapter?

they make 4 pin molex to SATA power adapters, retail HDDs come with them, you can prob get them at like Frys and Microcenter, comp USA as well

But he needs to go SATA to Molex. I haven't seen any that go that way. Not saying they don't exist though.

Your PSU has to have molex connectors, what would you power your DVD drives with..?

my burner uses the SATA type power connector, pretty much all new things do

im sure they has to be a SATA->Molex Adapter

Huh? Did they stop making power supplies with 4-pin molex connectors or something? How are you powering your optical drive(s) and your video card then? Or if you've ran out of available 4-pin connectors, they do make splitters for those.

edit: weird... I have a newer Lite-on burner (couple or 3 months old I think) and it still has the standard 4-pin...

im gonna run to radio shack and see if i can pick up a sata splitter that might have molex on it as well

i got mine a month ago, its a Lite-on as well, 16x or whatever the fastest is now 20?

anyway the only thing i think they still only uses molex is Vid Cards

that being said i build a comp a month ago and the PSU had molex connectors on it as well as the SATA ones

and yes they make splitters
