First off How many of you ppl are running an SATA HDD as you main OS drive and an older IDE HDd as a backup or storage drive???

I am and this was my configuration

primary master = WD 40gb HDD Ata100
primary slave = Pioneer 16x DVD-rom
secondary master = Pioneer DVR-104

SATA
Master 3 = WD 36.7gb Raptor

Now it only works in enhanced mode ala the manual and in fact it did ad Ithought it did with the bios 18 but it doens;t now...I had flashed to bios 19 and then all of a sudden and I am not sure it happened right afetr it I totally lost my ability to boot to the raptor unless I detached the WD from the ide channels no matter if it was primary or secondary, slave or master, and whether it was alone or with the other devices....

I though crap there went my WD 40gigger but I hooked it up to a spare PC and it ran fine and I was able to rtrieve all of my data....Back on the system and I can not get the 2 toplay nice together....It wants the 40gb first no matter if I even tell it to go 36.7gb first....It will just goto a black screen prior to windows startup screen....

Should I have installed raid drivers when I first loaded winxp??? I didn't do it, but wonder if that is why the OS seems to want the ide in terms of priority over the sata drive....

I have tried bios 18 and 19 and can go back to 17 but I don't want to go lower then 17 as I could loose stability in my oc....

Any ideas would be great....System runs but I just can't have my 40gb backup drive...I may have to sell and get an SATA drive...

I'm about to try this myself.
I've been running a Seagate sata drive from day 1 on the IC7 and I'm about to add a Seagate ide drive as back up.
I'll let you know how it goes.

One thing I do know is that you don't need drivers for XP unless you are doing a raid setup.

mmm...
Don't know what's going on with your setup.
I just added the ide drive and all works fine.
On chip sata = enhanced.
My sata is ide 3.
my pata is ide 1 master.
my dvd burner is ide 2 master.

Using 18 bios.

Try this-
Unplug the pioneer 16x dvd and the 40b.
Flash the bios to 18 from dos. When it tells you to hit f1 when its done make sure you shut down your computer without it rebooting.
Unplug the power cable. wait till green light goes out.
Switch cmos jumper to 2-3 setting. Wait a full 30seconds. Change back to 1-2.
Plug in power cable. Start up. Go into bios and make changes.
Boot up to windows.
Shut down and plug in 40gb hd and boot up.

If this works, then add the pioneer 16x back.

I will try that...

Here is a bit of update...
Originally I did have the issue when I installed the OS to the WD raptor my old WD was left as primary master...I set bootup sequence in the bios for the SATA and rptor first and I know winxp was installed on the right drive as it listed the size....

Once I dsconected the old drive during some issues with both drives working together I noticed it wouldn't load at all...I see from a search a nother thread suggested maybe the boot had been placed on the IDE drive and the OS on the SAta....

I did later do a single OS install without the ide pluggged into the board...worked fine....

Maybe issue now is I never hit F6 and installed any drivers during winxp install...Did I need to??? I though that was for RAID drivers which I am not running in a raid configuraion. Install went fne and no issues...
