SATA Hard drive format problem

Hello, I just bought a new Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 9 80 GB SATA hard drive. It is connect to my motherboard on Sata 4. I also have raid0 setup on the raid ports 1 and 2. Basically bios detects the drive as well as windows xp but it wont let me format it. Basically windows crashes when I try to format. The drive seems to be doing something for a while but then the system restarts. Could it be the drive? I tried PowerMax but due to raid0 or somthing it doesnt work corretly. Any ideas guys?

I had a problem with Windows XP SP2 and that drive. The system installed fine with a Win XP Pro SP1 cd, but the SP2 cd would lock up / restart. Is your mobo a Gigabyte Intel mobo by any chance? If you installed SP2 on the machine, even after Windows was installed and running fine, it would lock up. So the machine still has SP1 on it.

*edit* If its the mobo in your sig, then my question is answered.
