Looks like NexStar3 comes in IDE or SATA, and SATA is hard to find... be careful which one you buy, I guess.

This is an alternative approach. It is not an enclosure. I have no experience with it. But, I am considering something like this.

Is eSATA a new connector?
Do motherboards now come with it?

Most new motherboards come with an e.SATA (external SATA) connector on their rear I/O panel or with a PCI slot bracket.

I prefer not to have to reach to the back of the PC for this purpose. That is why I always hated the serial port (COM)!

Fans make the enclosures a little more expensive. I bought one of these and it includes a fan but is outta your target range. Look around here and see if anything else suits your fancy.

The Vantec NexStar 3 does not come with any fans, it is an aluminum case. I have the SATA version and use it as eSATA with my A8N32 mobo. Just as fast as an internal HD.
