SATA Drives

Dumb question
My laptop is having startup and restart problems.
It is 22 months old and out of warranty.
I have been exchanging e-mails with HP and their latest fix is to reinstall all the software, etc.
The only problem I have with that is it is very time consuming.
When I bought the laptop I made a set of restore disks, etc. A week ago I did a full backup. I have gone to the HP web site and downloaded all the drivers used on the laptop.

If I am going to reinstall all the software I will just install a new and larger hard drive. My current drive is 120 gig. I see a need for a larger drive in the future and thought a 320 to 500 gig drive will be a good fit. HP tech support said the installed bios will see a 500 gig drive.

Here is where I get confused. The drive in the laptop is a SATA drive.

To remove the drive you just remove the case cover and there are 2 screws that hold the drive in place. Remove the screws and there is s pull tab to pull the drive out. I have looked at drives on the Newegg site and when you look at the pictures of drives the connections look different then what I have. Do all 2.5 inch SATA drives use the same connections or there different connections for different drives?
I don? want to order a part and find it won?t fit!
Thanks

HI
I did pull the drive out of the laptop to see what it looked like. Then when I saw some of the pics of 2.5 inch drives those looked different. I know the pice don't show much detail but it was enough to confuse me! LOL
Thanks

I didn't have any different connectors when I changed drives on my MacBook but I have seen laptops that have adapters that fit in between the drive itself and the motherboard in the laptop. Check to see if there is an adapter you can move over to the new drive.

HPs website should have instructions on how to change out drives, also.
