SATA drivers on WinXP cd?

So it seems that I'm not able to boot from my new SATA hard drive. I get a "non-system disk" error when I try to boot straight from the drive or when the WinXP cd isn't in the cd drive. I assume the problem is that the SATA drivers aren't on the hard drive but are still located on the cd. Does anyone know where to find those drivers on the XP cd (or have any other input on my problem)? I have a DFI Lan Party MoBo and I'm trying to boot from a 36 gig raptor. Thanks guys.
 
The Windows CD does not include any SATA drivers. When it says "Press F6 for other drivers...etc" press F6 and load the drivers for your SATA controller off of a floppy.
 
what if you don't have a floppy? can you point the XP install to a USB device?? I'm just asking because it's been over a year since i last installed XP on a machine.

That, i would really like to know as well.
 
As far as I know, during an instlation, WinXP doesn't look to anything but the floppy for non IDE, HDD controller drivers. If you don't have the floppy disk you need to go to the MoBo Manufacturer's webpage and get the drivers, put them on a floppy, and go from there.
 
Most BIOSes allow you to use the CDROM, either as boot or during boot. You might try burning the SATA drivers to a CD and inserting then on the F6 prompt. Maybe even burning them onto a copy of your original Windows CD. I'm trying to be creative here, peeps.

Need to use slipstreaming. Haven't tried it myself yet.
 
Doesn't work by hitting f6 and putting in CD with drivers. Tried it. The floppy just makes noise an it says "piss off" or something like that.

What if you burn a CD with floppy emulation so it comes up as drive A:
This will usually make your floppy (if there is one installed) come up as drive B:
 
I had to install the SATA drivers from the floppy as described above by pressing F6 at the begining of the windows installation client. The floppy came with my motherboard.

I don't think you can use any other device than a floppy to install the SATA drivers, unfortunately.
 
I'm having the same problem, so when I try to download the the drivers and hit f6, nothing happens. Ive tried holding down f6 and pressing it repeatidly and still nothing is happening. Do i have to have the floppy disk in alread and then when i hit f6 it loads the drivers? thanks for the help.
