SATA driver for an Emachine

Working on a PC for a customer...his software won't run on Vista. He told me to erase and install XP Pro, which is on the rest of his network.

First, this stupid Emachine has no floppy (can you install SATA using a USB drive?)

Second, I can't find the driver I need. According to Emachine support, the motherboard is an Intel Coconut Grove chipset. Their website shows no SATA driver for it though.

I need to get this POS emachine outta my hair asap! Where to get the driver? And can I install it during the XP setup, using a USB drive or do I need to put in a floppy to do so?

you should be using RyanVM's post SP2 pack or nLite anyway.. so why not slipstream the driver into the disc?

How about a model of the emachine? the SATA controller likely is added and not native to the chipset. And I've never heard of coconut grove

You can with my motherboard. Whether or not you can with that e-Machine motherboard is another story.

I did download Nlite yesterday. Never heard of it before I started to try sorting this out. Great stuff! I never did see where it would allow me to add a SATA driver though.

It also is supposed to allow you to automagically load the serial number, to do an unattended install but in the ISO disk I just made, I never was asked for a code.

All that's a moot point because I still haven't found the damned SATA driver yet. Cocanut Grove is what I was told when I called Emachines looking for the driver. They are the ones who told me that the driver would be found on Intel's website.

I think their tech support is smoking cococnut oil or something!

Ah I just read my notes: It's Cocanut CREEK not grove. The motherboard chipset is Intel 945GC and the motherboard model is Intel Coconut Creek.

HELP find the SATA driver! (please?)

And if all esle fails, check Gateway's site for support. They own eMachines.
