SATA Drive

What do I need to know about these drives before buying one? I was thinking about buying two 160gig drives and using the method I just read in another post:

Channel 1 - Primary System HDD - Master
DVD Drive - Slave
Channel 2 - Storage System HDD - Master
CDRW - Slave

I assume these SATA Drives use standard IDE cables? Would the setup above be correct and the best method for optimum gaming performance?

Serial ATA drives do not use standard cables, nor does master/slave apply to them anymore. You'll need special cables and power adapters for serial ata drives, not to mention a compatible controller (either onboard or pci)

The only drives that really require SATA power adapeters are the seagate drives.

You are going to need a SATA controller which will either be on your motherboard our u can geta LSI SATA controller for like 25 bucks at newegg

Don't the Seagate drives come with the power adapter? The one I just bought came with a power-adapter cable and signal cable, it is a retail version.

Also, most motherboards now come with sata compatability.

Yes retail should come with an adapter OEM will not.
