I currently have WIN XP freshly installed on a 20 gig ide drive and new mobo (MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R) . I also have another drive, a hitachi sata 120 gig hard drive, but it's not being recognized by windows. i'm sure all the hardware is set up right, and i've reinstalled the drivers so many times. Half the time windows says its not digitally signed.

Which drivers did you guys install if you own this board with one sata drive? or can anyone help with a possible solution?

You need to make sure that your SATA drive is on the Nvida Raid controler and it's setup correctly in the bios, or it needs to be on the External SATA controler and the driver for that needs to be loaded, also you need to ensure that whatever sata channel you are putting the drive on is enabled in the bios and setup so it will support a standalone drive and isn't configured for Raid. Anyways hope this helps... :)

You need to make sure that your SATA drive is on the Nvida Raid controler
Just a slight correction, The MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R is based on VIA's chipset ergo no nVidia RAID controller.

this didn't work. the drive is recognized by the RAID utility, although i don't need it. Everytime i install the drivers for it, it says the device is not working properly. The SATA is enabled in bios, so i dunno wtfudge is goin on.

how do i make sure its enabled in bios?

Make sure the controller which controls your SATA drive in the Mobo bios is set to act as IDE. Although I'm not sure what the exact key combination is for your mobo, but when my PC boots I am prompted to enter the Raid BIOS with Ctrl+F should I require. I know on my P4C800-E Deluxe I didn't need to enter the Raid BIOS as long as I ran the drive as an IDE.

theres no option to do this in BIOS because the the SATA378 (the one on my mobo) drivers try to load on boot up, it says "BIOS not installed" ... which is weird cause regular bios works and the drive recognized by the raid controller.

I have a VIA based chipset on my MB. I have a AMD 64 setup. No matter what I did I could not get it to work with oth a IDE and Sata HD. Once I pulegged in teh IDE drive ti would refuse to find teh sata drive. The only solution I foun d was it works with one or the other, but not both. So I went otu and bought a second sata drive, and that's wher eI am now.

First of all, this board has 2 sata controllers. One off the southbridge (Via VT8237), and a Promise 20378 (chip is built in to the mb). So which one are you trying to use? It sounds like you're trying to use the Promise controller.

There are 3 settings for the Promise controller in the bios (probably under 'integrated periferals') Choices are S-ATA, RAID, or DISABLED. If you're running a single drive, then you have to set this parameter to S-ATA. If it's set to raid, the controller will try to function as a raid controller, but you will only have one drive attached so it will probably not function right.

When it says "the bios isn't loading", it's referring to the Promise controller's bios, not the mb's.

I have the settings set to SATA. i don't need any raid configuration because it's only one drive. but in the post above carni has the same issue. This seems like a really.... stupid problem. either on my part of the manu. part.

it's not too important at the moment... but i would really like my IDE and sata drive working at the same time. :(

Well why not try to plug it into one of the sata headers that goes to the southbridge and see what happens.

I couldn't locate my hitachi sata drive on either header while attempting to use Ide as my operating system dive. However after pulling the ide drive out I was able to find and install windows using either header. Hope that helps ya!
