SATA drive question

I loaded XP Pro 1st on the new Seagate 80 gig SATA. It did not give me the option to do a Fat 32 format - so I did it in NTFS. I then loaded SuSE Linux.

Linux works better with Fat 32. Thought I might have missed something the first time, so I went back and tried again - same thing - no Fat 32 option.

Anyone know what is going on?

that seems odd... it's probobly an issure with your windows cd and not the hard drive. Is yourr XP OEM?

I have an EIDE drive in the PC as I type. I did a re-boot with the XP Pro install disc in, but could not go far enough as I was afraid I would format my drive.

Maybe someone will know what gives

Fat32 has a 32GB partition size limit. So if you made the partition 80GB, Fat32 won't show up:

You can't write (easily) to NTFS drives in Linux. Since the OP is dual-booting or otherwise needs access to his files outside of a Windows environment, then (s)he'll be set to go.

I don't think you can format that drive Fat32 from the XP installer.

My hack is to load a Linux Live CD (like knoppix), and then format the drive with Fat32 from there - hopefully that should work.
