SATA Drive keeps dropping

This weekend I did a complete format and install on my new 500GB Western Digital Drive. After spending the better part of 3 hours installing, configuring, and rebooting I went to bed.

In the morning I powered the system on and got a 'Please Insert System Disk' error message. After going into the BIOS and redetecting the drive the system boots up fine. But now I would say 1 out of every 2 or 3 times, on a reboot, I 'lose' the SATA drive. If I go into the BIOS it redetects it, and boot fine, but this is obviously not acceptable.

Any idea what's going on?

You lose the drive?

As in when it boots to Windows the drive is not displayed sometimes?
or
When it boots it doesn't detect it in the BIOS?

Also, what kind of mainboard are you using? Are we talking about your system in your sig? Maybe we can find some stuff for you on the manufacturer's website. 🙂

Shh...I'm at work right now.

When it boots it doesn't detect in BIOS. I go into the BIOS, have it AutoDetect, and it rediscovers the drive.

I reboot and it goes into windows fine.

Yes, we are talking about the system in my sig

I'm running the latest BIOS for the motherboard, F10. I used the cables that came with the drive, when I get home tonight I can try the cables that came with the motherboard

That's a weird problem. I would check the cables or try a different SATA port on your mobo.

I placed the jumper on the drive last night, to set it as a 150MB SATA drive. I also added a 1 second delay on bootup to allow the drive time to talk to the motherboard.

After shutting down and powering on the computer about 3-4 times, it was recognized without problem. I suppose the next few days will determine if this fixed the problem.

Thanks for the help
