This subject has probably been covered, I apologize if it has. I want to keep my 80 Gig IDE hard drive as my C drive and install 2 x 160 gig SATA drives as storage, could someone run me through how I should do this, I am going to be using the ASUS A8V delux Motherboard. Thanks in advance............................scotty

Yeah, Instal XP on the IDE 80 Gigger, put in your 2 X 160 drives in, boot up your PC and then start installing stuff to your 2X160 Sata Giggers!!

Simple as pie.

speed for RAID0 or data backup for RAID1

I run 2 160 gigs in RAID0. In this mode, both HDD size is added to make a big 320g HDD. The only drawback, if one drive fail, all the array will fail and you wont be able to recover any data. But, I always keep a backup of personnal stuff anyway.. And thing downloaded over the internet can always be downloaded again.. Isn't internet the biggest public backup service???

RAID1 use one drive to mirror the content of the other, meaning that you loose one drive. You'll see only one 160g HDD and if one drive fail, then the other has a backup of it which can restore the data. But to me, loosing that amount of space is not really something I can afford. DVDs are much cheaper for backup .. And by no meand I have to backup a full 160 gigs

Thanks for the reply Guys, I have an 80gig IDE hard drive at the moment, is it possible to run this along side the SATA drives set up in RAID 0..........................scotty

Why coytinly, You can setup stripping with the SATA drives and run your 80 just fine. Just give it a try, its a piece of piss.

If you meant run an IDE drive in RAID with a SATA drive then you can not do that. You can only put 2 drives of similar type and size in RAID. So yes to the two 160 ones, no to an 80 IDE and a 160 SATA.

Muftobration, I was asking if it was alright to put my " C " drive on the 80 Gig IDE and have 2 160 Gig SATA drives in Raid 0....................scotty
