I purchased a new DVD ROM for my computer, however it is different than the one I previously had. I. It seems to be using the SATA cables instead of the cable belt thing that was previously attached. Anyways, My computer is not detecting it as a new drive (E🙂. I am able to open the disk drive, but my computer is not reading anything. Everything is connected to my mother board, but Im not sure if i need to like .... activate the other SATA slots (my HD is taking up one of those 4 slots) Any help would be great thanks. Ask for any details if need be

The old ribbon-style cable you're referring to is Parallel ATA. The smaller one you have now is the newer format, Serial ATA. Note that the S-ATA cables can come loose without any noticeable sign so make sure they're snug.

So you've already checked that both ends of the S-ATA cable are plugged into the motherboard? Have you gone through the motherboard's manual to see if the S-ATA ports need to be enabled?

Have you gone into Disk Management and made sure the dvd-rom drive had a drive letter assigned to it?

Yeah I was just reading my motherboard user guide now. And it says to enable RAID under NVRAID configuration. So I did, and I have the option to enable all off the following DISABLED: IDE Primary Master RAID, IDE Primary Slave RAID, First SATA Master RAID, Second SATA Master RAID. I have these 4 options to enable, I enabled First and second SATA master RAID and i get an error on start up that says "inset boot disk then press enter" Which do I want to enable?

Don't enable raid. It's not needed. There should be a separate option in bios to enable the specific sata port it's pluged into (should look like "Sata 1&2, Sata 3&4 etc)

OK I went back into my BIOS and found that setting, and its already enabled for my SATA 1 and 2. So I dunno why my computer is not detecting it. I checked the cables they are very snug
