Sata boot disk not recognized

My dad and I are building an audio machine and we have a 40 gb Wd sata 150 hard drive that we want to use as a boot disk. However, windows XP setup claims that it cannot find a hard drive. Help would be appreciated.

We are running the setup on an ASUS A8V deluxe, with 2gb Mushkin 2-2-2 and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+
 
Thanx, but my dad took his computer to work and just swapped out the sata for an IDE cause its easier. His machine is overall gonna have 560 gb of space. 120 in IDE, 440 in sata
