Hey all,

I just bought a new HDD for the computer Im building this upcoming month, and I ended up getting a 320G 7200.10 Seagate Barracuda.

My current computer is an old Dell 8250 that only has ATA66/100 ports for the HDDs and I was wondering if there are SATA ->ATA adapters I could use to test the HDD and make sure it works ok since I bought it OEM.

Ive looked through pages of cables on newegg and bestbuy but I dont think Im finding what I need.

Sorry if this is a dumb question - Im trying to learn as I go! Any help is appreciated.

EDIT to add from Dell Specs

Drives

Externally accessible
two 3.5-inch bays
two 5.25-inch bays

Available devices
ATA-66 or ATA-100 Ultra DMA hard drive, CD drive, Zip drive, DVD drive, CD-RW drive, DVD/CD-RW combo drive, and DVD+RW drive

Internally accessible
two bays for 1-inch?high hard drives

I found this at Newegg: Link but ythe reviews scare me and I dont think it would be worth $20 to test it since I have a 5 yr warranty anyways.

Thanks!

It is gonna cost you around $20. shipped to get a reliable PATA to SATA adapter (Rosewill) or controller. Up to you whether it is worth it.

Ok thanks for the information guys!

I actually just came into a few extra hundred bucks this morning (yay for birthdays!) so I may go ahead and order the rest of the parts for my new computer and just test it out then!

Thanks again!
