SATA and slave...?

I just received my new computer: an i7 920 on a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard, with (amongst others) 2 hard disks and a dvd-drive. That motherboard has about 10 SATA connections. However, the guy who assembled my system has put the dvd-drive behind the first HD. The BIOS says the dvd is the slave. But... I thought slaves didn't exist anymore with SATA...?
Does it matter that the drive is attached as a slave, behind the first HD? Would it be better to put the dvd in another SATA connection? Or doesn't it matter at ALL because masters and slaves aren't real masters and slaves anymore with SATA?

Hm, okay, so the dvd isn't attached directly to the HD but probably to the first SATA slot, which has two connections (0 and 1: the 2nd hd is on 3)...? I didn't check the cables but just looked into the BIOS... Still a bit weird that the BIOS calls it a slave...! I guess every slot has 2 connections and apparently the BIOS calls the first master and the second slave...

the SATA stuff may be running in IDE compatibility mode, which simulate master/slave. however you dont set jumpers, its all done automagically depending on what ports you use.

at least thats the way my SATA drive comes up in device manager.

check in your Device Manager, see if you have two primary and two secondary controllers (or more) listed under IDE/ATAPI controllers.
