SATA and Overclocking

General Questions

What are the drawbacks to overclocking your cpu with SATA attached storage?

What is a workaround?

Personal Question

If overclocking affects my data on my SATA drives should I just switch back to IDE
i'm sure I could get close to my performance of my 2x74gb raptors. I will miss them though.

  1. 1. I'd assume the same as with a PATA hard drive e.g. corrupted data, drive failure, etc.
  1. 2. Motherboard w/ working PCI Lock

why the promise controller? I have it through VIA's raid 0 config. I thought the southbridge would have more bandwidth.

Thanks
Glavin

Promise controller runs through the PCI bus & I don't think the VIA does ergo the PCI lock may not work with it.

Hmm, that might be why my defrag took so long. I will try it through the promise to see.

One last question... Software to check for corrupted data and failures? Any recommendations?

-Glavin

hmm

Windows Scan disk or whatever it's called for corrupted data checking & the Promise controller should have SMART features and there's a diagnostic program that displays SMART status but I can't remember it off the top of my head.

It wasn't Sandra but that might work (not sure).

EDIT: It was EVEREST

If someone has experience in this please respond...

Does overclocking your computer cause data corruption if you are running a raid on your southbridge?

No

I run an SATA Hitachi 7k250 on an overclocked Athlon64 with an overclocked bus and it works fine because i have a pci lock.

is yours on the onboard controller or is it linked to the southbridge for more throughput.

Oh, while we are on this subject previously on my P4 system practically the same setup just a 2.8 and P4c800-e I played games and wouldn't have any problems.

Now with the setup below I get crackling on my sound card when the drives are accessing. What causes this? I also found the same thing when encoding video off my TV Tuner
