Been reading about this, and of course I am completly confused...

I have read that SATA 2 is backwards compatible with SATA 1 drives..is that correct?

So there will be new HD based on the SATA 2 ?

What speeds (if that is the right word) will the drives transfer at.?

Thanks

The Host controller can handle 3000Mbps. or after error code, 300MBps. The only real benefit of SATAII is that NCQ is required. And yes, SATAII is backwards compatible.

SATA II is 300MB/s data, not 600MB/s. The drives will transfer data at the same rate they do on PATA and SATA I as the interface has no affect on current drive performance. New additions to SATA II, include the ability to connect more than one drive to a cable and a new external spec. NCQ was included in SATA I, it's not a new feature, it's simply required now with II.

Damn that'd be an awesome custom rig idea, fry your breakfast while playing some games!

Now I am really confused...Will the new drives have a teflon coating so the eggs won't stick?

No, you will still need to use a pan over the Prescott burner.

The Prescott can do a lot more then fry eggs. If you OC, and with a bit of Vcore, it can actually sear your steaks! :Q

Why do you think the food is so good at Intel press releases? I'm mean they have truly outdone AMD. Processors than can cook and do distributed computing to find a cure for cancer at the same time!

Well AMD is good for DC and all that, but Intel also doubles as a space heater. This comes in very handy on a cold winter night.

As you probably already know, AMD is pretty much crap for anything that would benefit from excessive heat. :(

Yeah, its such a shame.. and imagine, with dual core the heat has only gone up 10w....

Terrible!

I' guess I'll make my steaks on the prescott and my ice cream with the vapochill on the AMD!

Ok I think I got it..
Sata 2 can be good for scrambled eggs
Prescotts will cook your steak
AMD can keep you all warm and fuzzy
so then which MB will make my coffee in the morning?
