sata 2.5" HD not showing in desktop

Trying to pull data off of a 2.5" laptop sata drive. i hooked it up to the mobo sata ports and it shows in the BIOS but not in windows. even went into the disk management and it's not showing anything there either.

am i doing something wrong?

to answer both posts above:

i unhooked sata port 2 where my backup drive is(and working) and plugged the lappy drive in there. also when in windows right clicked on my computer and went to manage to disk management where i only saw my primary drive and my dvd drive..

i put the hd in the laptop it came from and prompted to boot. it comes up to the 'system recovery options' menu and tells me to select an OS. well there's not one listed so i go to 'load drivers' and have no idea where to find the drivers it's looking for. i've looked randomly on the vista cd i have without any luck.

How old is the drive? I know if you hook a sata 1.5 drive to a sata 3.0 port you need to set a jumper on the drive to step down the speed. If its an older maxtor you may be SOL since some of their drives don't have jumpers.

the laptop it came out of was purchased in april this year. it's a seagate drive.

i'm sure i could buy a usb adapter off the egg and snag the data off but the main thing stumping me the system recovery options and that's it's not showing any OS listed.

What OS is the desktop?
What OS is the laptop?

Have you tried the drive in any other systems yet?

Download a bartPE, miniPE or DUBcd2.0 boot cd, if you don't see the drive with that...

Sending out for recovery time.

Try getdataback http://www.runtime.org/ it might be able to read the drive.

Failing that you send the drive to a recovery company. They charge you out the ass to get important data back. $200-$3000 is the norm.

jesus. it's not for me, a friend who's dad passed away earlier this year and she didn't back the pictures up=/ i'll give it a go.

thanks!

How are you powering the 2.5 HDD? A SATA connection requires a separate 5 vdc power source.

i've tried the sata cable from my PSU, bought an external kit for it without any luck. gave the drive back and gave her a few numbers to call professionals. oh well.

thanks guys.
