Maybe there aren't any licensed dealers/installers for DirecTV in your area. If you install the dish yourself that shouldn't be a problem, though.

ugh....
Direct makes dealers check your zip against a list to make sure you can receive local channels. Call back and tell them you dont care about locals and you should be fine.

If he lives in the sitcks that's even better. FCC says you have to be outside of a certain radious from a major city. But I think that was done away with now since almost everyone can get locals or atleast east or west feeds.

the rule is that you would have to be able to receive the locals by antenna if you didnt have sat. The rule is definately still in place. Just had to turn a guy down yesterday that wanted to buy a sat.
Okay, so why can I get locals and I can get cable or full reception by antenna?

you can get locals because you can receive the signal by antenna.
Its pretty simple really.

So If I couldn't get locals by antenna I couldn't get Locals on sat? I thought it used to be if you were unable to receive locals by antenna then they would allow east or west feeds?
Local stations provided to local markets
Isn't that what TMPadmin is saying... That if you live outside of the local stations range, you are eligible to get the East/West coast feed? The new SHVIA also addresses the satellite retransmission of distant television stations to subscribers. This applies to television broadcast stations that are not from the subscriber's local market. Subscribers who cannot receive an over-the-air signal of Grade B intensity using a conventional, stationary rooftop antenna are eligible to receive these distant signals.

I can get them just fine with an antenna I'm only about 35 miles NW of the mpls/st paul area
There are generic west coast and east coast network feeds. From what I understand, if you live in Eastern Oregon where you cannot receive locals via antenna, you are eligible to receive the generic west coast networks feed.Originally posted by: GoodDad

AFAIK that means you can receive non-local locals. In other words, you can receive the local ABC channel from San Diego if you live in New York, but not New York's ABC. It gets confusing, so most places just tell you no.
Or just type the zip into the link I provided above.Originally posted by: GoodDad
