Calle dthe sat company to see get some nnumbers and they said I could only get dsh network. I wanted directv, but they said its not avail in my zip code. I thought sat was available everywhere. were they ust feeding me a line of BS?

Maybe there aren't any licensed dealers/installers for DirecTV in your area. If you install the dish yourself that shouldn't be a problem, though.

Direct TV web site.

I didn't look but I'm sure there is something you can do to enter your zip or just call them and ask if you can get service. I can't see why not. Just order the hardware directly from them, they ship and will setup an installer.

Edit: for those who know, do you think I would have issues signing up again with the free deal when the installer comes out and finds my old dish on my house with wires all hooked up? I'm at a new home that I prewired while it was being built, that's why I have it all setup already, but I want the new equipment.

ugh....

Direct makes dealers check your zip against a list to make sure you can receive local channels. Call back and tell them you dont care about locals and you should be fine.

its an FCC thing, not a direct thing. Sounds like you live in the sticks.

If he lives in the sitcks that's even better. FCC says you have to be outside of a certain radious from a major city. But I think that was done away with now since almost everyone can get locals or atleast east or west feeds.

ummm...no

the rule is that you would have to be able to receive the locals by antenna if you didnt have sat. The rule is definately still in place. Just had to turn a guy down yesterday that wanted to buy a sat.

Okay, so why can I get locals and I can get cable or full reception by antenna? I'm confused now.

you can get locals because you can receive the signal by antenna.

Its pretty simple really.

So If I couldn't get locals by antenna I couldn't get Locals on sat? I thought it used to be if you were unable to receive locals by antenna then they would allow east or west feeds?

FCC site
Local stations provided to local markets

From that FCC site:
The new SHVIA also addresses the satellite retransmission of distant television stations to subscribers. This applies to television broadcast stations that are not from the subscriber's local market. Subscribers who cannot receive an over-the-air signal of Grade B intensity using a conventional, stationary rooftop antenna are eligible to receive these distant signals.
Isn't that what TMPadmin is saying... That if you live outside of the local stations range, you are eligible to get the East/West coast feed?

AFAIK that means you can receive non-local locals. In other words, you can receive the local ABC channel from San Diego if you live in New York, but not New York's ABC. It gets confusing, so most places just tell you no.

There are generic west coast and east coast network feeds. From what I understand, if you live in Eastern Oregon where you cannot receive locals via antenna, you are eligible to receive the generic west coast networks feed.

just got ahold of em seems theres a franchise here and they can't sell it to me, so suppose I'll call the franchise than...directv alot better than dish to make it worth the $100 for the install?
