Republicans up to their same ol' bullshit of funneling public money to their friends:

In his 17-month stint as UF president, Ben Sasse more than tripled his office’s spending, directing millions in university funds into secretive consulting contracts and high-paying positions for his GOP allies.

Sasse ballooned spending under the president’s office to $17.3 million in his first year in office — up from $5.6 million in former UF President Kent Fuchs’ last year, according to publicly available administrative budget data.

A majority of the spending surge was driven by lucrative contracts with big-name consulting firms and high-salaried, remote positions for Sasse’s former U.S. Senate staff and Republican officials.

Classic repug corruption there, he prefers not to deal with Russians. "High salaried, remote positions." Heh. UF got him because they wanted to attract money, same deal as when he was at Midland.

I didn't go to UF, but many of my friends did. I've done the gator growl a few times. A relative of mine was 'voice of the Gators' for 40 years, Otis Boggs. Always thought of the place fondly, even if I take exception to their priorities. I remember feeling sad when I heard the hyper religious culture war hypocrite Sasse was put in charge. I expected corruption and culture war stunts that coincided with what Team Treason and that DeSantis twat wanted. Ben did not disappoint.

I think the whole "this is a place of free thought!" whilst trying to stamp out anything "woke" is still my favorite bit of his. So weird; he's a smart guy, you'd think a Phd in History might allow him to detect that disconnect. But he hates Obamacare, loves government shutdowns. The one saving grace to me was his resistance to Trump, but I'm not sure that matters as much to me now. I'd rather see him not be a crook. UF doesn't need any help getting money diverted from actual learning. That's what the football team is for.
