first off.... SARS is a virus.... surgical masks DOES NOT HELP to prevent you from contracting it.
the virus is too small and it wont be filtered thru the surgical masks. in otherwords it is useless...
secondly...the main supplier in HK for these masks is 3M..... so if u want to go make some money off ppl being sick and dying u go right ahead.
3rdly....this virus is not airbourne.. in order to really contract it....the person would have to sneeze...while u were around...and get his sneeze on ur hand.... and then u eat with that hand and inject the infected saliva.
the media is blowing it up...the SARS is bad....but its not like u will catch it just by being rite next to someone with SARS..... the chances of actually contracting it is very very low
BCSkunk - here's a rebuttal to your comments:
SARS is actually 2 viruses, the combination of the coronavirus which causes common cold & fever, and a virus which causes measles & bumps. Secondly, the disease can be carried through the air by sneezes and coughs (aerosol), therefore a mask can help to prevent inhalation of the virus. The virus can survive in open air for 3 hours, and can be transmitted through contact by hand with contaminated objects and surfaces (e.g. elevator buttons).
N95 spec masks can stop objects up to 0.1 micron, particles 1/10th the size of both Anthrax (4-10 Microns in length & 1-1.5 Microns in width) and Tuberculosis (1-5 Microns in length) at a 99% level of efficiency. Masks prevent carriers from spreading the disease, and people from inhaling the virus.
