Well, that's dishonest - or selective memory - as the republicans have courted the anti-gay vote for many a year and have used it as a rally/dividing point.

from my cynical perspective, it's like a little hope with Barry vs no hope with McCain, at least as far as something like don't ask/don't tell goes. I don't think either of them would press national legislation for or against gay marriage; they both seem to take the "voting present" option by calling it a states right's issue regarding something that they personally oppose, though I certainly can't say the same for Palin.

Obama is for gay unions, but against gay "marriage".

actually, its not that at all, i hate the military for the most part, although i realize its necessary

my problem is that I like to actually hear the opinions of people who actually serve ..and when one of those people expresses their viewpoints in a way that i wouldn't expect them to, i am interested to hear the point of view....

So, counterstrikedude, if you were running the McCain campaign what should they have attacked?

they shouldn't have attacked anything. there was no need to. talk about obama's relationship with jeffrey wright - how he arranged his marriage, baptized his kids, and was his close friend for over 20 years. how how obama was a member of the radical socialist party - the new party, or his connection to radical fundamentalist ayers...the list goes on and on.

the best prediction of a presidents competence is not what they say (which is almost always bullshit), but their past history, associations with other people, and personal life. voting for someone based on solely based their "issues" simply makes you a tool. both sides, especially obama, is going to say whatever he has to to get votes. it just so happens that obama is better at it than mccain, unfortunately.

I am not a meatshield, i am SAS, when you hear about a specific target getting hit in the area between Afghanistan and Pakistan i marked that and most of the time took out any AA weapons and most outside guards of it. Not one man lost yet.


Petreus is less accomplished than anyone in my team, he's a fucking nobody, a deskjockey General who only got his position because he could be trusted to obey political orders. To compare him to the likes of General Wesley Clark who served and fought for his rank, or McKiernan who did the same sickens me.

When the "foot soldier" starts to involve himself with the political, military or civilian objectives, it's time for the soldier to re-join his civilian counter part and a "true foot" soldier to take over his place. Military generals had and will always be involved in a balancing act between political, military and civilian objectives. That's their job! Never is it their job to make sure the "foot soldier" agrees with their objectives or plans, that's the Sgt's, LT and Capt's jobs.

You should use your chain of command with any complaints you may have. If you have complaint about Gen Petreus performance and objectives you should bring it to your Sgt Major or Company Commander and tell them you cannot possibly perform your job because Gen Petreus is too political with his mission and objectives! And please do come back to us after talking to your COC and let us know of the decision they arrived to regarding your complaints.

We do appreciate your volunteer work out there in support of OIF, OEF and GWOT. However from your post it's obvious you are burned out and should return back to civilian life. Remember, it's an all volunteer force. NOBODY CAN FORCE YOU TO STAY UNLESS YOU WANTED TO!

Great example of not doing your homework. John is a captain in the sas. I believe the chain of command for him would filter up to the british prime minister to the president of the u.s. and then trickle down to patreus. Sounds like it might be useful if this happens. I imagine that political generals can get too far away from reality.
