One thing about it .....you aren't going to take any of it with you
when you leave.

Grave clothes may have pockets but your arms are too stiff to reach
into them.

The Hutus murdered were moderates. Remember there were a fair number of Hutus in the RPF, even in their leadership.

Anyway, you can argue about specifics, but it's stupid to claim there's nothing the West can do to help.

If you don't want to, I suppose there is no obligation. But don't complain when the world view of the US is less than favorable. That's human nature.

i don't think they were moderates or else hutu moderates would have been slaughtered where there were tutsis too. its just the strain of overpopulation. anyways theres a chapter on it in jarod diamonds book collapse

I asked what their major burden was. The little poke at religion wasn't the focus of the statement. Again, what is their (africans and middle easterners) major burden that these areas seemingly cannot manage themselves?
Reality is we have our own problems here that we need to focus on. If we have starving or homeless people here I say not a dollar should leave the country until that is taken care of.
Fine - lets say most of the money is wasted.

But for 20k you could help hundreds of people with food, shelter, and skills training, or even get a dozen out (I've dealt with quite a few African blacks at work at the university - they're very friendly and hard working).

Even if only three or four are able to gain productive lives from it, it's still a better use of the money than anywhere else in the world.

Would you really prefer giving aid to poor Americans, that barring mental illness or physical disability have no valid excuse for being poor? (And no, lack of family planning doesn't count).
See statements above. European nations donate scant amounts of money to the cause. Bill gates alone donates more money to charity than most european nations.

European involvement was the core cause for the issues in africa today. So why isn't belgium over there cleaning up the mess they created? Africa is a total clusterfuck. There is almost no chance of any government ever staying in power there. Unless some first world nation goes in and completely takes over. Then the whole cycle starts over again.
Again, at issue here are private donations. I'm sure that there is someone in France who has personally donated more than everyone in this thread combined. So let's not get all nationalistic, this isn't a competition.
