I don't think the end of TSCC was that bad as a cliffhanger. It does make you wonder where the show would've gone in the next season, but you can sort of treat it as an ending in that
John Connor "got away" by traveling to the future.

Eureka is silly fun. It's not too serious, and it got a decent ending even though it did get reset a few times throughout the series. It's a fun show though to waste time with.

Eureka is fun if you just want something light-hearted. Warehouse 13 is another show that was on Sci-Fi that was similarly light in tone, but full of Sci-Fi and a bit of fantasy.

+1 for Fringe - it's a must see. The first 2 seasons may be great or not so great depending on your tastes, but the arc changes around season 3 and goes from monster of the week to an overall story that circles back to the things they've been doing the first 2 seasons. Unfortunately I would say season 3 is the lowpoint of the series. If you can make it through that, season 4 and 5 are pretty good and season 5 takes it full into closure with a completely different perspective that works well for the show.

I don't know about most, but I actually liked the whole "weird science event of the week" format that the first season had.

was getting real good the second season with a lot of interesting implications for the terminator universe when it was canned.

Except that ring stuff was getting really irritating.

EDIT:

Somehow I missed out on Supernatural, and I'm currently plowing through it on Netflix.

Supernatural isn't bad, but I'll be quite frank in that the constant bickering between Sam and Dean can get really irritating after a while. I'm pretty sure that I've shouted, "Holy fuck... have you two learned nothing!? COMMUNICATE!!!", a few times. It doesn't help that every rift between the two is usually caused by one keeping a secret from the other and it makes the other one mad when he finds out. Although, similar to Fringe, my favorite episodes are the monster of the week ones.

Actually, scratch that... my favorite episodes are the meta ones (where they reference the show or the weird quirks that it has). Those are usually hilarious!

I agree with the weird science of the week. I like those the most in most shows (Torchwood, X-Files, etc). Most seem to get bogged down by arcs eventually. However, many people seem to like the monster of the week the least I've noticed.

As for Supernatural. I will say it this way. I absolutely loved seasons 1-5. Watch 1-5 then STOP. That is the true ending of the show. Everything since then is a let down and was not originally intended to happen. I quit watching around season 7/8 because it just seems aimless and rehashed at that point. Seasons 1-5 had a complete story arc that was written from the beginning. Watching everything after is depressing and aimless and makes the original story arc pointless.

Speaking of which, if you've never watched Torchwood, you should.

That and
the fact everyone from the future who was killed earlier in the season is still alive in the future including (probably) Riley,
was pretty satisfying.

I gave up on Orphan Black halfway through the latest season.

just feels like it's getting overly convoluted just for complications sake, not for adding anything to the overall story.

I really liked Fringe. I think they did the monster of the week with an overall arc of mystery well (like the already mentioned x-files). I also thought the acting was pretty good except for Joshua Jackson. I thought the overall writing got pretty bad towards the end of season 3/4 and all of season 5. I believe it was because of the uncertainty of whether it would get another season or not. They should have just ended at Season 4.

EDIT: Personally, with all the shitty endings that I've had to endure in good movies, games, and tv shows, I prefer the "easy way out" cliffhanger endings rather than have them shit all over my previous enjoyment.

I feel like The Almighty Johnsons (more fantasy than sci-fi, but still worth watching!) did it pretty well.

they weren't sure if the show was getting cancelled or not, so they wrapped up about 99% of the plotlines and just left the slight glimmer of an opening for a 4th season

That's a relief, it would to take me a while to go through ten seasons at the rate I'm going. Almost done with season 1 now.

Supernatural is great. As mentioned before, the show is best in the first five seasons. Once angels and heaven get involved it goes downhill, but hey, real life is like that too. The later seasons are still worth watching if only for Crowley.

For lighter sci-fi, Warehouse 13 was fun.

Also try the BBC series Primeval. And for that matter Torchwood too, I liked Primeval more than Torchwood.

Made me remember the show Sanctuary which was pretty decent. As well as Merlin and Misfits (seasons 1-3 were great - season 4 and 5 horrible).

Never heard of Primeval. I always see the Torchwood sets around used. I'll look into them, thanks.

Only saw the first 2 seasons of Misfits, but they were indeed awesome.

I loved it. I wouldn't encourage anyone to see it now because it leaves you hanging big time though.

Chronicles is good, second season is a little iffy. Yes, ends at a cliffhanger. Wish there was a third season as many of the fans do. I guess it's not much of a cliffhanger though if you understand my role. :D

Wish I had a hot T-888.

I have the DVD's.

It was a great ending. Alison from Palmdale was there too! LOL

It sounds like Fringe and 4400 are contenders. Anyone have any further comments on Haven and/or Eureka?

KT
Eureka is fantastic. It doesn't take itself too seriously, so they can do some pretty funny and awesome things. Highly recommend it. First episode is kind of slow, but the show gets really good pretty fast.

As mentioned by someone else earlier, Warehouse 13 is in this same vein and also very good.

The 100 gets way better. Revolution I couldn't make past 1-2 episodes, maybe it's a difference of taste, but I really like The 100. Season 2 is excellent.
The second half of the first season of Revolution is really good.

Season 2 is not so good and the first half of Season 1 is pretty slow. But it's worth watching for second half of Season 1.

Does the 100 get better? I started watching the first episode and couldn't finish it. Just horrible story, acting, writing. After that I started up Revolution, WAY better.

The 100 was alright the first season, but this season the lead actress has been insufferable. It has some interesting bits here and there, but I dunno. Revolution started out great, but again, the second season just went in the toilet. I think most of these post apocalypse shows just dont have anywhere to go after they set the universe they are in. Interesting concepts, but thats it. You would think they would be able to do a million interesting things since they have a blank slate to do whatever they want, but they never do anything interesting.

Personally I think it has gotten a lot better in the last season or so. I think they just finished season 10 (?) and I thought the quality really improved around the middle of season 9, although the improvements started as soon as we got past the Leviathans. From 6 to 9.5 though, it really did take a dive, though it's still worth watching if you enjoyed the first 5 seasons. I think the problem after the first 5 is they've used just about all the monsters they can for the MOTW formula, so they have to find other filler, and it shows. Still worth sticking with it, though IMHO.

Oh right, forgot about Orphan Black, been meaning to watch that one for ages. Thanks!

KT

That's filmed in Toronto, so you might recognize some places.

TSCC was good, but it's too old and unfinished now. Also, the actress for the hot terminator is now a MILF, and Sarah Connor is a double-MILF.
