When Sarah blew the terminator up the head came to the future with them. It bounced off the hood of a car and then landed by the side of the road.

Well, again to be fair, the 2nd and 3rd ones explained that by default the Terminators are sent back through time with their "learning" function turned off, so when they turned it back on, they're going to act slightly more human. Although that was in some random deleted scene, so maybe you didn't see that. Point is, they did try to explain that away.

Summer Glau Terminator especially took it WAY too far though. Laughing and chatting in the hall at a high school? What the hell? It's almost like they realized they'd gone too far later on and dialed it back a bit, too. It was annoying and made it difficult to watch sometimes.

When they were at the gas station and John was eating a bag of chips he asked her what model she was. She didn't say anything. Then he asked if she was different and she said something to the effect that "she was a different model, alright" and then she ate a chip out of the bag.

Later on when she was stitching up Mom, you could tell that she was trying to "understand" the pain that Mom was going through. It's like she was trying to learn emotions.

I'm assuming that they are trying to introduce a new terminator model that has a beta version of an "Emotion" chip. Per the movies the terminator models were an ongoing evolution to make them more "human" so that they could better infiltrate human dwellings/ranks.

My guess is the girl, small frame and all was picked so that it would allow John to be more comfortable. He's a teenager after all. What better way to get a teenager to be comfortable aroudn than some teenage looking female terminator. She'd probably be nude all the time walking aroudn their shack. I'm sure John would be very happy.

Agentbolt's question = me ~15 minutes into that show

vi_edit + herkulease = my explanations for initial criticism, based on the story. interesting twist, i thought. clever, reliable based on current tech gains, pop appeal, etc.
Now....what happens when they're aren't writers putting this stuff together?
;)

I think this constitutes the beginning of a thesis (in terminatology)....

I think some of you guys have unrealistic expectations for what's essentially a made-for-tv movie.

I thought it was pretty decent, all considering. I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it or anything.

Well, I enjoyed it, even if some others did not.

One thing no one else has seemed to notice, but these are not the terminators from the original future timeline, as some think. Sarah Conner DID change the future, but she just delayed the creation of skynet. This 'new' timeline skynet was created in 2011, when general technology levels are a bit more advanced than 1997. As such, all the machine/terminator models will not be exactly the same. They may be similar to the original timeline, but will have been developed under slightly different conditions, allowing for minor differences. So they may have more or fewer models, and they may have better behavioral programming allowing them to blend in human groups easier.

Remember, Reese came from the year 2029, and Cameron has already stated she came from 2027. A full two years ealier than the original skynet sent back the first terminator. The tech level in the 'new' timeline should be somewhat higher, since it had more time to develop before the nuclear hollocaust. But it is to earlier to say that, as there are few details on the 'new' future.

this runs along the lines of something else I was thinking, in that "future" John seems to have the ability to send cyborgs back later and later in the time-line...suggesting that Judgment day may be prolonged infinitum. As Judgment day progressively appears later, and with a further incremental rise in technology, "current" John also matures to an older age when "Day Zero" actually hits. His mental abilities, preparative strategy is likely more tuned. Perhaps he's gained more information into the technology that gives rise to actual time travel (an older "current" John will certainly realize that this is the war-ending tech in the war on machines: he keeps himself alive (And the machines at bay) every time a pair of cyborgs (assassin and protector) appears). Current John would probably realize (as he matures), that having earlier access (and invested resources;) ) In this tech, he will have a greater chance of survival when that day comes. Perhaps current John will manage to arrange himself (economically and physically) to be standing in a time machine the moment it hits, and can zip back to the immediate day prior, and redo his errors (ad infinitum) until he finally ends Judgment day.

...This could mean that we are all slightly missing Judgment day, and we should be thankful that a selfless fleshy "messiah" tirelessly sacrifices his blood to prolong our sentient existence. Or, it could also mean that the moment Future John crosses the same continuum as Current John (instant teleportation on Judgment day), is the moment that Current John snaps out of his trip (brown acid), and realizes that his journey into his past life was a 30 year-long depressive look on his childhood, and missed opportunities.

....The chick terminator in this series mentioned to Sarah that John always liked how his mother had read to him, though he never admitted it to her. THis could be a simple response programmed into a "learning, emotion-enabled" class of terminator, but I see this as a direct message from future John that he wanted his mother to hear.
Imagine a son who has survived his mother's death (not hard for many on this board, I imagine
rose.gif
), and the regrets that he has after her death, looking back on their life together: things not said, hugs not given, a wink that he wish he might have given her the moment she realized that he was a man, etc. How John felt, as a child when his mother would read to him, was that regret....This man sent a hallmark card to his long-dead mom, via steely boobs of death.

I watched 5 minutes, and the acting was bad. I'll try to watch the entire pilot later and judge then.

So far, the second episode was a lot better than the first.

Aided by an enormous NFL lead-in, the premiere of Fox?s ?Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles? had a powerful debut Sunday night, but NBC?s airing of the actor-boycotted Golden Globes hit rock-bottom.

?Terminator? earned a 7.6 preliminary rating among adults 18 to 49, overthrowing NBC?s ?American Gladiators? as the highest-rated new series premiere this season. In fact, according to Fox, the show is the highest-rated scripted broadcast debut in three years.

With Fox?s presentation of the NFC playoff game garnering a 14.5 overrun in the 7 p.m. hour, ?Terminator? was properly set up to blow away the competition at 8 p.m. Fox?s ?Family Guy? (5.6) and ?American Dad? (4.1) likewise performed well.

The premiere gives Fox a jumpstart on its usual late-winter domination, which typically begins with the launch of ?American Idol,? scheduled for Tuesday.

I liked it. Not a spectacular start, but good enough for a TV series.

I thought the person playing Sarah was playing it more like the Sarah of T1. Kind of mousy. It's not the buff Sarah from T2 that should be there in this timeline.

I don't see what you guys are saying about John. Several people said that they though the John of T2 was better. I thought the John of T2 was a whiny bitch actually. I prefer the John of T3 over any of them though.

With time travel involved there is no reason that Sarah can't go back to 1997 and die of leukemia.

The TV terminator Cameron seems to me like she has been trained in the future to mimic the behavior of a teenage girl better. That would be the only explanation that I can think of. There was one scene where she was mimicking the girl leaning on the Jeep. I think they (the people in the future) must have known that this one would be a more long term protector and needed the social skills a little more refined. I would assume that she is a model in between the Robert Patrick T2 liquid metal terminator and the Kristanna Loken T-X, since she doesn't seem to have the built in weapons.

Summer Glau is totally hot. The series should have started with a naked Summer Glau scene.

It was interesting how she evaded Johns question of which model number she is.
I wonder if she is "fully functional"?

That would bring new meaning to the term "sex machine".

Heh, I'm surprised nobody has said anything about the headless Terminator from the past putting on a guy's head.

I'm enjoying this show so I will continue to watch. Now I just hope it doesn't get yanked just like every other new show I try to follow.

I'm hoping this show succeeds, I haven't seen it yet but if it does really well maybe we'll get a Schwarzenegger cameo.

Also, "Schwarzenegger" is in Firefox's spellchecker. That's when you know you've made it.

Haha! You sound like my wife!

She leaves the room after 10 minutes if she doesn't like a movie....and says this same thing "This is stupid, I'm going to read a book."

She doesn't know that it's a mistake to do that as many movies turn out to be good/great had she stayed. Still, she doesn't care to play the "'what if' I would have stayed and watched the movie" type of game. ;)

anyone else think it was funny that what was probably the most advanced machine on the planet was using a laptop?

you'd think they'd give the terminators an ethernet port or something.

Was is just DirecTV, or did anyone else experience bad looping? The audio was so out of sync with the picture!

hoping for a quick hit. Shameful to wreck a classic sci-fi film for this crap..

That is the saddest part. The franchise is probably ruined.

That ship sailed when T3 was made.

It coulda been worse; I think it has potential.

Yeah, T3 already did that.

The series is better than T3, and it is written assuming that T3 simply never happened.
