Hey everyone, new to the boards here. I'm James. A lot of you seem pretty knowledgable about many things I've read in these forums, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I've got the Sapphire Radeon x800 GTO^2 LE (16 pipelines outta the box), and can get it up to 550 / 600 with no artifacts (aside from the point here). Anyway. I recently purchased a DELL - 26" W2606 LCD TV

The TV supports up to to 1080i. I want to run it from my computer (DVI) at 1360x768. The picture is crystal clear at this resolution, but the only problem is the mouse seems to 'lag' a little. If I set the display to 720p using the catalyst control center, it's the same crystal clear image, but there isn't that slight delay. The only problem with running 720p is that it does not take up my whole screen (about 3/4 of an inch black all the way around).

For the life of me I can't figure out why I seem to get this 'lag' when I set my resolution to 1360x768. Is there a way to cure this lag I'm experiencing, or perhaps stretch my 720p setting (using the video software, not the settings on the actual TV)?? If anyone can help me I'll be forever in your debt =)

Edit: Using 1080i setting in catalyst control center displays an image that shakes up and down and is scrunched to the middle of the screen (but does stretch to both sides), so I'm assuming I can't use that.

Also, when watching DVD's (component), my DVD's don't seem to take up the whole screen. I thought this might've hadsomething to do with my DVD player settings (running at 480p). I checked, and my screen settings on the DVD player are set to 16:9, and no matter what I changes the settings on the display to (standard, wide, or fullscreen), I get black bars on the top and bottom of my screen. The only way to get around this is zoom, and I assume this creates an image that is not displayed as it should be. Even when I play a DVD from the computer rather than the DVD player it is not displayed correctly.

Again, if you guys can help me out with either problem, I will be very grateful.

James

Do the DVD images look stretched? If not, then it is simply because although the DVD says 16:9, it is actually just outputting a 16:9 video with black bars on the top and bottom, because depending on the editing, they may leave it at a higher aspect ratio (eg: 2.40:1). Long story short my guess is that it is displaying correctly.

As for the mouse lag, if you previously used a CRT, you may just be getting used to LCD response time. The specs say 16ms, and I initially noticed the delay on my 12ms 2005fpw. Just give it some time and it will feel more natural. If it is really bothersome, I recommend trying out other large LCDs to see if you still notice it. As for why it doesnt show up at the smaller resolution I can only guess that because there is less real estate it is less noticable, but I could be wrong.

Good luck, and good choice on the vid card.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. That seems kinda weird that whoever is producing these DVD's leaves it at that. And the DVD's do not look stretched. I noticed now if I zoom it, they look too skinny. What you say may be correct, and kind of upsetting :p Anything else that might be causing this? (Lower end DVD player maybe?) Time to get some HD DVD's I guess. (Downloaded some clips and they look great, and they DO take up my whole screen).

Anyhow, as for the your idea in my getting used to response time, I'm sure this isn't the problem. The response time is actually 12ms (not sure why they have 16 posted), and it's not that. When set to 720p, or one other resolution (I forget which right now, not at that computer), everything is bang on. Looks great and performs like it should. It is only when I'm not using one of these resolutions that it seems to lag out a little. Hence, it cannot be the response time, can it? In any event, I'm open to more ideas / solutions as it is still kinda bothering me. I mean worst case scenario, I use at 720. Just don't feel like I'm getting full use out of it.

Jaymes.

It could be the built in scaler is scaling when you aren't at 720p. This can cause a slight delay. Alot of people have had problems with playing games on the older DLPs because of this problem. The screen ends up being a few milliseconds behind the source.

Thanks for quick reply ND40oz. That could definately be it, but I mean this display isn't too old, and the native resolution IS 1360x768, isn't it? Doesn't that mean it should run at that resolution optimally? Even if it's not the optimal resolution, why would scaling the image introduce lag? I don't know too much about these things.. Still looking for more help as I haven't figured it out yet!
