Pretty insane. People weren't kidding when they were talking about how conservative AMD was with clocking the 7970.

Guess AMD wanted to get it on the market ASAP.

That's an impressive factory OC percentage-wise. People who watercool their GPUs are going to have a party.

I will be all over one of these when they come out, or the MSI Lightning 7970 if it is clocked similarly. If you go by the guru3d 7970 overclocking results:

The 7970 gains 15% performance from a 22% core and 15% memory overclock.

Following that vein at 1365 core with the same 15% overclock the 7970 will be 30% faster than it currently is. Which would put this Crysis 2 score at 79FPS.

How much will the card cost ? Were the Sapphire Toxic cards in the past much more than the stock cards ?

how in the heck are they going to get 1325 out of this thing? not even every review could get 1100 out of the 7970. and lol at the 6gb model.

Remember non of the reviewers could adjust voltage.

LOL indeed at the 6GB model. It looks like an Eyefinity 6 card. Would be funny to see a 12GB 7990 model.

I'm all for that beast. Judging by the oc tests this card @ 1.3ghz might be faster than 6990/590 in most games.

Rage will use the 2GB to 3GB of that VRAM. The rest is a waiste,, game texture sizes will tho reach a technology that one day youll need lots of VRAM but as of now as long as you have 1GB ,, your set ,,,,gl

I might get a factory OC'd card rather than the reference model. It should be faster than 6990/590

The only reason none of the reviewers got over 1125 was because the factory bios is locked at 1125.

These chips are pretty damn amazing if they are going to release oc'ed versions at 1300ghz on air. Count me in on that. That card would be all you need for the next 2-3 years so you will get your money out of it.

EDIT: looking at the names of the cards I'm thinking the 1325ghz cards are going to be some type of water cooling mainly because it says WC right in the name.

you did not read what I said very closely. I said some reviews could not even hit 1100.

a 7970 @ 1335mhz is faster than a 6990 or 590 right?

Wonder how much those will cost, and those will be stock speeds for factory overclocked versions
(which people will then manually push higher). Yeap 7970 on AIR beats 590/6990's.

I thought more or less all reviewers, that could use CCC, where able to just turn it up to 1125mhz (ccc cap with early bios+drivers). at stock voltage.

Maybe those early engineering samples for reviews sites ect arnt as good as the card really is?

They also were not able to tweak voltage. The fact that many reviewers hit 1100+ clock at stock voltage is absolutely amazing, now just imagine the overclock potential
with aftermarket cooling and voltage tweaks?

Overclocking GPUs is much like CPUs , adding voltage makes success much easier. My MSI lightning 580s can hit 950 but require +100mV in afterburner to get there.

Most of the reviewers I read that stopped at 1100 said they did because they didn't want to fry the card before they were done testing. I know Guru3d stoppted at 1100 and then did a follow up with it maxed out.

lol, lets try this again. MOST of the reviews could hit 1125 which was the most allowed in the CCC. some reviews could not even hit 1100 though. that makes me wonder just how much voltage it would take to get to a whopping 1325.

That could be a refresh that will take on keplar. I hope they don't call it the 7970-2304 edition or something.

They aren't that smart. We make fun of nvidia for their goofy/counterintuitive/etc naming schemes and other schenanigans like focus groups, but don't you think that AMD graphics division would happily switch marketing depts with NV if given the choice?

Well, all I know that if I want to keep my PC as the center of my entertainment system - I'll need to dish out for the Eye6 version - so if that means $650+ I guess I'll have to rework my setup and install HDMI switches 🙁

If they make a Eye6 under $600 sign me up! I can then add that third monitor to my desk setup and still run the HDTVs and maybe even add a HDTV to the bedroom. 😀

Oh the possibilities.

If past performance is any indicator of future performance then an over-pci-e spec AMD card is more likely to take more volts than one from, say, the green team. At least, the AMD card is less likely to turn into a yule log.
