Sapphire to launch ATI RS480/SB450 motherboard

Any other non-gamers excited about this? I was looking for a socket 939 solution with on-board video and posted here looking for info. I had resigned myself to a socket 754 with on-board video from SiS, but got sidetracked.

I was afraid I'd have to use the VGA port on my Dell 1704FPV, but this Sapphire motherboard will have on-board DVI! 🙂

I hope it is reasonably priced.🙂😀

That is quite interesting. If they have a good OC option, this board will be a great attraction to gamers. It'll be like a upgraded version of NF2 IGP chipset with better Integrated Graphics, PCI-E, and Azalia audio. Too bad I've already bought a MSI Neo4-F ( I was actually thinking really hard between the Neo4-F and the RM480 (Xpress 200). Nvidia needs to make a new IGP chipset. NF2 IGP ( a GF4 MX420 equivalent) can only stretch so far. If they make a NF4 IGP (with Integrated Graphic capability closer to a 6200) and add support for HD audio, they'll have a good counter against ATI's IGP chipset. I think IGP chipset is a great way for OEM and even moderate gamers. For OEM, you'll have single board solution (add CPU, RAM, drives) that provides respectable video performance. No more reliance on those Intel Extremely Crap Graphics 2. For moderate gamers, you'll have something that lets you buy some time to save up for the "best bang for the buck" video card on PCI-E. Also, IGP is great when your video card screws up, as you'll still be able to use your PC and play some of your games at least.

Actually Sapphire is late to market with their RS480 solution.

I've been running my MSI RS480M2-IL board for a couple of weeks now, and I ran it with the Radeo Xpress 200 graphics core for almost a week while I waited for my X800XL to arrive from ATI's online store.

The MSI RS480M2-IL has been perfectly stable and easy to set up and install. The IGP is also quite impressive, boasting complete DX9.0b support. UT 2k4 and EVE Online looked exactly the same as on my Radeon 9700. Benchmark-wise, I would guess the Radeon Xpress 200 IGP would rank closely with a Radeon 9600SE under most conditions. I scored a 614 on 3DMark05 with the IGP and my Athlon 64 3000+.

The IGP can actually interface with a PCI-E graphics card for multi-monitor setups, too. I haven't had a chance to play with this feature yet.

This is a great solution for folks who aren't overclockers and who don't want to dump a small fortune into an SLI-ready setup.

Sapphire announced a RS480 board back in November along with MSI, Asus, ECS, and TUL. So far, MSI is the only manufacturer to actually ship the product.

SAPPHIRE SET TO STEAL THE SHOW AGAIN AT CeBIT 2005!-Sapphire Technology, the world's leading supplier of ATI based graphics cards and PC motherboards is showing the latest in its high performance products for OEMs and end users, including some exciting new technology developments, at the CeBit 2005 Exhibition in Hanover, Germany from March 10th to 16th.

I would be really interested in this board, but it has got to have overclocking features. I would'nt care if it was a little slower than nForce or Via because it ought to be quite abit cheaper than the rest.

Toms had some info and pictures of Jetways RS480 with on-board memory for the graphics instead of shared. Ought to be good for a few more frames per sec.

"ATI Xpress 200 based motherboard. Said not to compete with such brands as ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, etc. in the mainstream segment (in other words, the price will be rather high). Positioned for hardcore gamers. The white-red corresponds the latest ATI High-End graphics."

high price 🙁 🙁 🙁 yeah, this thing is gonna cost.

When will this board be available?

I'm waiting for this board and the new AMD Venice cores to be released next month, before I buy my new pc.

DFI Lanparty Ultra-D or Sapphire Radeon Xpress
AMD Winchester 3200+ (OC 230x10=2.3 ghz.)
OCZ Premier 2x512 2.5,3,3,7
ATI or Club 3d or Sapphire Ultimate X800 XL
Antec 3000 B Case
Enermax Noisetaker 485 W PS

Hey crazzyeddie,

what's your fastest stable overclock on that MSI RS480?

I did hear there were some overclocking versions coming out soon. They supposedly put out very good performance when they get the right bios's

micro ATX boards are designed to fit in either mATX or ATX cases. I'm running my MSI RS480M2-IL in an Antec SLK1650 ATX tower case.

Hi all, I have a question about RS/RX480. Sources say RS480 is for home user whereas RX480 is for the gaming ethusiast. While this is true in that RX480 users need a separate card, does it also imply that a discrete solution (e.g. Radeon 9800) will work better on the RX480 than on the RS480 board? If so, what percent difference should I expect (based on other models)?
Thanks in advance🙂

If anyone is interested: I heard on another forum that the xpress 200 benched 5200+ on 3D01 with Athlon 3000+ and 512/1024 RAM

There shouldn't be any measureable performance difference between the RS480 and the RX480 with an add-on video card.
