Hmmm. I have a 3870 I could probably drop off on ebay for $100. Think this is worth the $40 extra or should I just sit out this round? My monitor is only 1680x1050.
That depends a lot on what you use it for and what else you have in your system. If you have a very strong processor (C2D 3.0ghz+) and play heavy graphic games with max AA/AF, then yes it's probably a great upgrade (20-50%+ performance). Otherwise, probably worth saving your money.

Any advice?

chances are it's dead, this deal has been going for 2-3 days now. Either that or you have to be part of the newsletter.

anybody have a link to the rebate? i ordered one before 7/31/08 but hadn't printed out the rebate form....

ok, 4850 is installed and I'm mostly happy with it. Here's the pros/cons list:

pros:
1. fan is no problemo at all. I read taltamir's 4850 guide in the video section and made a custom profile. I run folding@home 24/7 and running the fan on 37% is perfect for anything other than furmark with the card oc'd to 690/1075.
2. heat isn't an issue. card idles at 54c now and loads with folding@home at 74c.
3. AA/AF - had problems using this at all with the 3870, now it's a piece of cake 🙂

cons:
1. have an older bios, so card idles at 500/750. not a major issue for me b/c it's always in use, but could become an issue later if I stop.

do you have a link to a newer bios? mine too idles @ 500/750. i moved my fan up to 50-60% as i am in a room that routinely gets to be 82-85F, plus i am 3 fans short in my case atm.
