That's the sweetest deal I have seen so far from a reliable retailer. The other two good places to buy the ATI build 9600 Pro is Mwave $167(No shipping +9.50 ground) and Googlegear $176(shipping included).

not to thread cr@p or anything... but why would you buy the 9600 pro for $167 instead of buying the 9500 non pro for $149 and then soft-modding it up to a 9700 pro+?

Because the softmod is not guarenteed, and there are many people who don't want to go through the hassles of returning it if it doesn't perform like they hoped (or settling for a lesser card). Just like there are people who would rather pay $20 more for something then deal with a MIR (people like me).

referring to the post about buying a 9500NP. it will be harder to get rid of the card when I am going to be getting something else. 9500NP will be two generations old and no matter how hard people are educated about the cards, it won't work that easily. 9600 pro oc's nicely still. BTW mods don't always work. Kind of a gamble.

Looking at some prices on pricewatch, if you search for a 9500 Pro, you can find one for exactly this same price. I hate this stupid numbering system.

Anyway, I like the title of this page

9500 > 9600?

9500 Pro review

Some places actually have the 9500 Pro for a *higher* price than the 9600. Eventually all the 9500 pros will show up on the FS forum, and that's when I'll buy one... my ti4200 is still working fine for now.

9600 preform incredibly well when OC'd. They out do a 9500 pro by a lot, and are very close to a 9700 Pro. The 9600 Pro, when oc'd would probably be very similar to a 9700 np, and quite a bit cheaper.

Also, it is a bit hard to oc a 9700 np becuase if the bios lock.

Not really, if you have a moddable Sapphire branded cards, their BIOS is factory unlocked.

The 9600Pro is a lot less power hungry than the 9500Pro, which makes it suitable for me, for example, because I run it in a Shuttle XPC.

Hey, guys, what's the difference between this card for $168 and the Lite Version for $152? Also, newegg now has a POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9600 PRO EZ for $148 shipped. It says it's 400/400Mhz, meaning 400Mhz core & 400Mhz Memory. Isn't that memory speed significantly higher than that of stock 9600Pro cards? Why is this card cheaper?

IgoByte -- that's why it is less expensive. The EZ and Lite versions are closer to each other than the real 9600P. Check the vid card forum (where I am getting my sources from).

I've discovered this amidst my price searches for 9600P. There are variations of the card and all of the cheaper ones are Lites or EZs.

Thanks. I didn't know what the Lite and EZ signified, but the EZ card is rated at 400/400, which actually makes it faster than even the most expensive one there at newegg, the PowerColor Ultra, which is rated at 400/340. I got the PowerColor 9600Pro Ultra card I just mentioned on Friday. It was the most expensive that newegg had in stock. I'm very disappointed with it. No. 1, the screen blacks out once in a while at stock speed (400/337.5) and No. 2, this card is a terrible overclocker (as soon as I raise the memory clock above 337.5, I get problems with games and more frequent black-outs. I'm RMA-ing this card on Thursday, and have ordered the Radeon-built 9600 Pro instead, which should be here tomorrow. It seems as if the Radeon-built cards overclock the best.

Any of you guys have experience with the "Gigacube" brand? GameVE.com has the Gigacube ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB RETAIL for $150 shipped...

JP

The 9500 Pro's are no longer OC'able. They don't use the 9700 PCB anymore, therefore you wont be able to get anything close to a 9700 Pro. What ATi orginially did was get all their defective 9700 Pro, de-clock the and turn of some of the pixel pipelines. Of course some cards were barley defective but they still wouldnt be able to sell it. Thats why you had the 9500 mod frenzy. 😀
