From a performance standpoint there is no difference between a 9700pro and a 9700 non-pro overclocked to 325/310. Yes the pro will have better ram, but as long as the overclocked 9700 is running fine at 325/310 there will be no appreciable difference. Thats why people that have enabled the 4 additional pipelines on their 9500 non pro and were able to clock it to 325/310 are confident in saying they now have a 9700 pro. Maybe the name is a technicality, but the performance is the same.

Well I ordered one of these yesterday. I haven't bought anything through a yahoo vendor before so hopefully there is no problem. How long did most peoples orders tend to take if you guys bought from here? Who all ordered from these guys and did everyone that order get these "L" shaped ones and successfully mod?

May be Sapphire Radeon 9500 is easier to softmod? Can I softmod ATI Radeon 9600 pro to Radeon 9700?
Any reply would be appreciated.

Answer to 9600 Pro to 9700 = No, but they seem to be able to overclock 9600 Pros to give similar performance to the [edit=add word]stock[/edit] 9700 in many benchmarks.

Not all that similar. In the Video forum someone has a new 9600 Pro overclocked on a comparable system as mine. I just got my refurbed 9700 for the same price, flashed bios to 9700pro and overclocked nicely and scored almost 2000 3DMarks (2K3) higher. I'm over 5400 on an Athlon 1900+.

btw my 3dmarkscore for 01 is 14,000 and 420 for 03.
is that normal??
my rig is 2400xp, 512 gig ram

I don't think that is normal.
Maybe it's because your system.
You put in too many memory modules in your case.
There is not enough air flow. Either take out some of the memory or get a "bigger" case.
Or try to be normal by just putting enough memory

a question for you guys...my local computer shop has the 9500 non-pro with the black heatsink, does this have a better chance of being soft-modded than the newer ones with gold heatsink, or is there no difference?

My friend got a gold heatsink one that softmodded just fine.

I just got a gold heatsink one. Mod worked (Omega drivers). Some artifacting at 9700 pro clock/mem freq (speckles in 32mark 2003). Not sure whether its the core or mem, but I'll figure it out.

Hmm.. BF1942 runs great at 1600 res with ansiotropic filtering set to 8x. No artifacts at all. I wonder if it's just 3dmark 2003. I thought it might just be DX9 programs, but I get the speckles during parts of 2003 that ran on my geforce 4, so I don' t think that is it. I hope it's just 3dmark, because if so, I have more overclocking to go. Weeeee.

GREAT card, got it last week and my softmodded and ocs to 390/315, battlefield is silky smooth with 4x AA and 16x AF. Get 18k 3dmark too 🙂

how do u OC it to 390/315 and keep it cool? I have mine softmodded to 9700 using Omega drivers, I only get 12xxx in 3dmark01 and also, I have a problem with counterstrike....it keeps on suddenly rebooting for some weird reason. I've had that happen in 3dmark01 if i OC it even to 320/320

okay if its restarting by itself I don't think its the video card thats the culprit, are you ocing the cpu? That may be your problem.

I didn't overclock the cpu at all. Someone else said that maybe it could be the way I connected the video card to the ps.

Mine comes today or tommorow, I'll keep you updated if it mods and how far I can get. Either all the recent success is good because it means that the better yields of cards take the mod more frequently or bad cause it's about time for a dud.

hey, I was wondering... if all these people return their cards for a soft modable one, does the company just recycle the returned ones to other customers? If so, then the odds go down as more people try... also the company makes alot of money on restocking fees...

Post your thoughts.

:| Got the BLACK PCB version, not the RED one as pictured on the website. I'm trying to get an RMA #, but I will probably be hit with a 20% restocking fee. NO ONE buy it from here anymore!!! :|

Where did you get the card from?

I was thinking about getting one, but i felt taking achance on a 9500 that might flash is not worth it. I went with a 9600Pro for work system.

The color of the board has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether or not it can be soft modded, it's the configuration of the memory chips in either the L-shape or I-shape. I have all the most commonly asked 9500 mod questions answered here.

I believe most of the black colored boards are with I shaped memory configuration. That's why he was pissed.

Correct. This card is for my little brother, so I wanted save some money. I already have a $200 ATi Radeon 9800 clocked at 440/365, so I don't care 😛

Should have ordered from newegg. they are pretty good about getting you the things that match the picture.
sorry it didnt work for you!

I ordered one too from enet and got a black PCB yesterday. Damn! So what should I do to the stock black one? Just overclock it or install anything modded to it? THanks

From what I understand it doesn't matter if its red or black pcb... as long as you have "L" shaped memory. Run the mod and report your results. Best of luck.
