I was browsing Newegg.com and saw they had the red-pcb sapphire radeon 9500 non pro 128mb card for 160 bucks and FREE shipping. if you look at the pic on the newegg site it also has the "L" shaped memory arrangement. This is definitely a good change to get a softmoddable 9500 card from a reliable dealer.

Someone should call Newegg and confirm the red lcb and l shaped memory though.

Sapphire Radeon 9500 128mb non pro $160.00

Did a search for Radeon 9500 and newegg and didnt see any results, hope its not a repost.

Still tho.. problems, problems abound. It's pretty much proven to be a 1 in 20 chance that the hack will be successful without any checkerboards or artifacts by now. I'd just assume get the 9700 if I was aiming for that much power. If you are only looking for the power of a 9500 and don't have your hopes set high then get this and by all means try the hack. Who knows you might get lucky..

ya its like a 50/50 on the hack. This is definitely worth buying, you get a top of the line card for a really good price. A lot of people got their hack to work on the newegg cards (their 1st batch). Got mine from allstar and the hack worked, loving it :)

Just switched from ATI to NVIDIA (R8500 64 to ti4200 128), looks like I might end up going back to ATI. That is, if I manage to sell my ti4200.

I love the psuedo science that people throw around.....

yes its true the hack won't be 100% successful for 100% of the boards... but to throw around a statistic you invented as if it were fact is simply ridiculous.

Its a proven fact that 72.9% of all statistics are made up on the spot....

ROFL, that's COMEDY.

EDIT: Well has anyone been curious enough to call Newegg and confirm that the L shaped memory is the kind they have in stock?

I'm in as of yesterday...

check out this thread for some info on the hack and the googlegear fiasco

even better link for the hack is here.

anyone know what hacks are guarenteed on the L-shaped one or are they all a crapshoot? I heard that at the very least you can get a pro out of this card.

I did the hardware hack early on , mine ran beautifully at 9700 Pro speeds but it had artifacts, I had a guy
with 25 years of micro soldering to the job and it looked like it was made that way from the factory.

The 9500 by itself is not that great of a performer IMO so I sold it for a loss........but dang I am tempted to try one more time.

I bought one of the last ones from the first batch at NewEgg and it has been a champ for me with the hack. Even if the hack doesn't work it's a very nice card for the money, and a decent buy...but few here want "decent" deals. :)

If you do get a "L" shaped card, according to the poll held on rage3d, there is about a 60% chance that it will mod successfully without any checkerboarding. Some checkerboard far worse than others, depending on how many bad pipelines you have.

I think when the guy was talking about 1/20, he meant that the bad ones, which have already been returned once, are being resold, and you have a good chance of getting one of these. Not sure it that is the case. Hopefully not.

If it does checkerboard, you will be stuck with a 9500np. You can not turn it into a 9500pro, as that would require opening the bad pipes. While not a terrible performer, the 9500np definitely is nowhere near as good as the similarly priced 9500pro.

I got my 9500 from GoogleGear back at the end of Jan, and it hacked perfectly.

Which retailer? It's a good card for 8x and even better if it can be hacked.
