The problem I was having was RAM related, I have a duff dimm, not related to the board except the fact that the dimm was plugged into it..

Those are the problem devices listed in the .inf files of the sata driver update, they're all Seagate model numbers bar the Maxtor at the top, your drive should have one printed on it, if none of those match up, then you're good to go.
www.seagate.com has a model number search function so you can check it against the name if you can't find your serial number on the drive/packaging.
