Ok, I play Crysis 3 for about 30 minutes in. On the outside deck, in the rain, with everything maxed, 25x16 resolution and medium motion blur, I am getting 38-44fps. Everything is smooth and looks fantastic.

The OP's card is a little faster than mine, so he should fair better with his dual cards. I almost had a heart attack because the first time I tried to launch it, my computer froze. When I rebooted, for some reason, Xfire was turned off. I launched the game and me heart sank when I seen only one card working in afterburner. When I exited out, I looked, and seen where Xfire was turned off, then I turned it back on. It ran like crap through a goose then.

Do you think it's worth for me to get another card? :)

Would be very nice if you provided an update (performance, fps, micro-stutter, minimum frame rate improvement, "smoothness/feel") in this thread for people who might be considering going CF for Crysis 3. I saw a couple people ask already!

I play at 1920x1080. I mean for just one game I'm not sure. I can easily put it on my newegg proffered account and pay it off in a couple months but how long will it do me. I mean the new series will be out and I may want one of them.

I would not charge it, only pay cash, its not worth that. The new cards won't be out till this fall probably. But with CF, it will last a while. My 5870's lasted a long time. If it were not for Crysis 3, and a little of BF 3, I would still be using them.

Yeah I just don't want to spend another 400 out of my bank right now. I'd rather wait and when its time get the next series equivalent.

I understand what u mean, I'm thinking if I'm not happy with a 2nd card I can just sell it. I also read that AMD's new series will be delayed for along time, but I'm not sure if its true. Also if all this games are coming, I was hoping 7970 GHz in Crossfire would also help on all this games :)
BioShock Infinite, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, Grand Theft Auto V, Rainbow 6: Patriots, Metro Last Light, Watch Dogs, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Blacklist

The problem with crossfire or sli is its a trap. If you get two cards, and when the next gen launches, its never as fast as last gen's dual card solution. You have to wait two generations, and then at best, a single card is equal to the cross fire solution from two generations ago. In order to get gains other than power savings, and a few other bells and whistles, you are stuck going with a dual card again to really get any major performance gains.

Just like with the 7970ghz editions. Besides the extra onboard memory, if I was still gaming on 1200p or even 1080p, a single card would have pretty much just equaled CF 5870's for the most part.

For me it would just add extra hassle trying to sell the two cards. Almost everyone wants the new generation. I haven't had any issues maxing any games I play with my 7970ghz. I don't think I will with the upcoming games either.

I don't mind turning down shadows and blur or a little AA.

That's what I was thinking, and I was hoping 2x7970Ghz Overclocked in Crossfire would last for a long time. I know spending money on two cards might be a waste for people, and it might even be for me. But PC is the only thing I like to play on, I'm not gonna buy a new Console for ex Playstation 4 because I don't like Consoles. And I see some people getting 3 Nvidia Titan's, I would say that's more waste, because of the insane price :p

I have to say that Grand Theft Auto V is the game I am really looking forward to this year, and I was hoping 2x7970Ghz Overclocked would do well in that game :)

I am not saying they wont last. With the exception of BF 3, my 5870's ate up everything for almost 3 years with really good frame rates and reasonably high settings. It did slow down after I picked up a Dell U3011, but that's to be expected.

On the flip side, if running a single card you have to worry if they go EoL. Then you are stuck with buying a used card that might have been overclocked to death in order to get a matching card. Take my 5870's for example. If I would have had only bought one to start with, and the 6 series launched, my card was long out of production. So I either buy someone else's 5870, or pony up for a 6 series that did not get that much performance increase. By buying 2 cards while in production, I don't have to worry about either, and I did save money in the long run.

With the exception of when the 8800GTX was launched, in recent history, there has not really been a card worth going straight from one generation to the next.

I would say if you are going to do it, now is the perfect time with cards hitting under $430 and two AAA games attached to them. You can either sell it or them, or if you are like me and have more than one gamer in the house, that's pure gold not buying two of the same game for the PC.

I'll think about it. It looks like my cad will fit 2 of them with the hd cage removed but only the center one comes out. The other pcie slot is near the bottom where that section of the hd cage is built in.

I too am waiting for gta but I would never buy a used card that's a new gen material. I haven't overclocked my 7970 much except when I first got it to see how far it would go. Haven't had the need to play any of my games Overclocked.

I don't overclock my cards anymore. I might get in a mood to benchmark every now and then, but that's why I like crossfire. I get way more performance without the other headache of just overclocking a single card.

I do clock up the cpu to make sure the cards not cpu bound though.

Don't take advice on this from Nvidia shills/fanboys get it from someone who has Crysis and 7970 crossfire. I'd get another 7970 if I were you and if it really doesn't work well (which I'm pretty sure it will) then return it to the shop/etailer.Please do feed back on your experience !
