No way it will be a 512bit part. I expect 384-bits on a 450mm2 die at most. That would be enough to kill 780/Titan with current GCN uarch.

I hope the new series are a big improvement over this series, if not I might have to crossfire my HD 7850.

To whom it may concern in this thread, 🙂 I still think imo there still is a chance we could be see a 20nm 9970 and/or possibly 28nm on the other sku's. I wouldn't shut the door 100% to no 20nm until the cards are launch and we see for a fact. No one knows as fact 100% if AMD doesn't in fact have a contract/agreement for a "certain amount" of 20nm nodes being produced in 13 for AMD. I am not saying there is going to be a 20nm but I am not excluding it 100% either at the same time until the official confirmed launch imo.

Btw from reading some of the posts I find it a little hard to believe Nvidia will be bring out a 28nm Maxwell after the current 700 series release then launch a 20nm after a Maxwell 28nm launch in 2014.

It....will not be 20nm. Per digitimes, TSMC's 20nm fab equipment won't be fully installed or ready until December 2013 or Q1 2014, and it won't be ready for volume production until 2Q 2014. That's an optimistic estimate, delays are possible and i'd say likely - And even then, it's fairly obvious that Apple and Qualcomm have a lot more cash to throw at TSMC than nvidia or AMD. In fact, Apple has already secured some 20,000 wafers for 20nm IIRC. TSMC has built a batch of equipment solely for the fabrication of Apple A8 and A9/X chips.

October 2013 is way too early for 20nm, not going to happen.

Blackend I am not one for going back and forth but here is part of my argument for possible 20mn and again I am not saying there is going to be a 20nm 9970 for sure. They have been producing the wafers since around 4-13 of course not at full production but there is supply so we have supply and it has long passed risk production.

While TSMC has four "flavors" of its 28nm process, there is one 20nm process, 20SoC. "20nm planar HKMG [high-k metal gate] technology has already passed risk production with a very high yield and we are preparing for a very steep ramp in two GIGAFABsTM," Sun said.

For the Apple and Qcom argument I will quote hurleybird.
You could have said the exact same thing about 28nm, but ATI/AMD produced a 28nm product long before Qualcomm did, and that's a monolithic GPU vs. a tiny SOC. ATI has consistently led the pack in bringing the first volume shipments from TSMC on each node and absent argument why this should stop being the case, the smart money is on ATI leading this node too.

you must not have been hanging around any tech forums much for the last several months. AMD took the 7 series and renamed it the 8 series for OEMs.

No I been around just hiding😛 I had thought they only did it for apu and mobile. What a waste of the HD8000 series name🙁

It seems to be completely random with regard to affected models (mostly reference), and happens when vsync is off and the framerate is in the thousands. As a sidenote, my sapphires (when I owned them) also did not have coil whine but I've heard of many other random 79xx cards with coil whine. I just want AMD to ensure this isn't an issue with the next generation - personally if I ever bought a card with coil whine it would be an instant RMA.

If they're serious about good customer experience focus with the next-gen, then this is an issue they should ensure doesn't exist. As well, many review websites pointed out coil whine on 7970 and 7990 cards. Any card with that issue, it is an inexcusable issue with design or QA.

I had major coil whine in that exact scenario with my gtx 460 - 768 and gtx 480.

Apparently, Tahiti is still relevant until mid-2014. Don't know how that could work out since I would expect Volcanic Islands to replace the highend - and that is Tahiti.

Except if AMD pulls an Nvidia, puts Hawaii on top and shifts everything else down a notch. Tahiti then would go into the 9800 series, Pitcairn into the 9700 series etc.

Not exactly possible in that order, Curacao is the replacement for Pitcairn and will be ready alongside Hawaii so I don't know where that would leave Tahiti.

In earlier leaks Curacao was named as the high-end GPU, not Hawaii. Along with Hainan as a Pitcairn successor. But since Hainan is a low cost mobile GPU, I think it's safe to say that the information about Curacao is highly inaccurate as well.

Where is your source about Curacao being a Pitcairn successor? Maybe Curacao doesn't even exist (anymore). It certainly didn't show up in the driver leak a few weeks ago, but Hawaii, Tonga and Vesuvius surely do.

Curacao is more real than Tonga or Hainan. It's Pitcairn kicker with boosted memory interface and some other changes.

Source? Tonga is listed in the driver inf, Hainan was confirmed by Dave Baumann at b3d forums. That makes them quite real, but there are only rumors about Curacao.

Nvidia kind of did the same thing with its 3xx series. Albeit with much lower end GPUs.

Oh wow I never knew they made a 300 series for oems. Guess I missed that one entirely!

Was thinking about picking up a 7850 1gb but I think I can wait for HD9000s

Tonga and Hainan are both real, I'm not saying they aren't. Curacao is just more immediate and relevant to enthusiasts than either.
